In anticipation of his AW15 debut, Alan Taylor has released an accompanying fashion film that succinctly explores the mood of the new season’s collection. Filmed by skate videographer Josh Church, the pseudo-documentary explores notions of disdain and fury within the protagonist at the flaws of modern culture and its stagnation into commercial despair. As we follow the modern day anti-hero through mundane realities and night crawling darkness, the rawness of youth is presented in all its illicit elements. Inspired by Larry Clark and his film Kids, Taylor focused on Clark’s unvarnished vision of youth culture, and the underlying tones of bleak realism and the frictions of life. With the confessional art of Tracey Emin finding resonance in the anti-hero’s reflections of the world around him, we are taken through a life in a day of the Alan Taylor man. Signature tailoring is tied to the slap-dash shapes of late 90’s skate wear, further linking to the film’s exploration of jaded feelings and explicit expressions.

Art, Scandal and the Breaking of Taboos. Talk at Fondation Beyeler. Decisive new impulses have repeatedly been transmitted to art by artists who have deliberately flaunted convention. Art history is a history of the breaking of taboos. Scandalous artworks are often associated with provocative representations of sexuality. Why is Courbet’s L’Origine du Monde still controversial today? To what extent has the role women play in art changed since it was painted? Which artworks have the potential to break taboos today? These and other questions were discussed at the Fondation Beyeler by the artist Tracey Emin, the literary expert and feminist Elisabeth Bronfen, the British curator Sir Norman Rosenthal and the art historian Andreas Beyer. Presented by: Finn Canonica, chief editor of Das Magazin.
