The only thing you hear going down the trail is your bike, you're tuned into every sound it makes. One of the most satisfying things is a tire pattering down the trail, squashing muck, sliding over roots and smashing puddles. Unfortunately this lush, raw sound is often lost in most videos, overtaken by the music. Curtis Robinson takes advantage of winter conditions and makes some noise with his Stumpjumper FSR EVO. www.specialized.com/stumpjumper-fsr www.iamspecialized.com

Remember that line from "Field Of Dreams"?.. Well anyway, the point is that half the fun is all about the build. Sure, we trail riders mainly live for the exploration & adventure of the ride; but knowing how to build & service your rig comes in handy when out on the trails. Especially when riding the trails -- where no public conveyance vehicles can be found, and where service pit stops are scarce (no gasoline stations, no bike shops, hardly any tire repair stalls, no taxis, no telephones, mostly no cellphone signal -- basically no one to help you but yourself, should you ever fall prey to a mechanical failure). So essentially, a trail rider's fix-it-yourself skill set is as much a source of adventure & confidence as his/her technical riding skills. 'Cuz out there on the trail, there ain't no support vehicle to carry your spare wheelset or spare parts -- or even your extra food/water & tool kit. (This is all-mountain trail biking, dawg -- not triathlon/roadbike training! You hit a snag out there, it's all on you! You on your own, esse.) So yeah, it pays to know how to put together -- and take apart -- your own bike.

The Coastal Crew have been searching for that ideal zone with endless natural lines for years. That one magic zone they could walk into with hand tools, rake, ride and repeat. The goal was to embrace natural terrain, find the limits of traction and most of all have fun doing it. www.specialized.com/stumpjumper

                      Tags

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
