Plug and Play (PnP) refers to the ability to connect peripherals to a computer without the need for manual intervention in the low-level configuration. Currently, the built-up systems of medical devices involve the interconnection of peer devices rather than the PnP model where devices are peripheral to a central computer. That this current solution of working with multiple devices has become an impediment to safety and effectiveness is readily apparent in every modern ER, OR, ICU, and NICU in the country. STITCH aims to untangle and organize some of this chaos while providing quantitative measures of improvement in clinical practice. For more information, visit vis.uky.edu/STITCH/

Imagery and imaging systems are hugely important to the success of laparoscopic surgery. Broadening the range of imaged light beyond the visible spectra could greatly improve a surgeon’s ability to identify anatomical features in minimally invasive surgery, adding visual cues not even available during open surgery.
