        • The radically new interface - TYPO3 5.0

          01:22:02

          from Jens Hoffmann / Added

The radically new user interface for TYPO3 5.0 This video shows the radically new visions for the user-interface and concept of the TYPO3 5.0 backend and frontend. Those had been shown the first time to a broader public audience at the TYPO3 conference 2009 in Frankfurt. Responsible for the innovative new interface and concepts behind TYPO3 5.0 are the three well known interface designers & concept architects Jens Hoffmann, Björn Brockmann and Rasmus Skjoldan. Two of them, Jens & Björn, are in the Video and doing the presentation about the new user interface and the strategic concept by introducing some visual details everybody has been waiting for several years already. But the projects for a new User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) for TYPO3 5.0 are still in an early phase, this means some details could still change in the future. Here you can see some details of the general concept, based on detailed wireframes (not real designs), which should be used for all the possible new frontend and backend modules in the future. The main goals for the new interface and concept are a mostly self explaining, but "hidden" UI and a UX as comfortable as technically reasonable, in combination with the known powerful scalability and flexiblity of previous TYPO3 versions. In our eyes it is also very important for TYPO3 to keep the "soul" of our "baby" alive. This project aims for a very simplified concept and modern look & feel for the next major version of TYPO3. http://typo3.org/teams/usability/t35ui/ On this page you can also find some unpublished internal secrets and very raw sketches of the futuristic visions for the upcoming TYPO3 versions. They should give you a first impression of some ideas behind TYPO3 5.0. Just to make things clear, nothing in those sketches is meant to be final, it's an early experimental state, but it is exclusive content and gives you an inside view of the creative work behind this new UI and UX.

          • Deep Forest Remix - a TouchDesigner Application

            01:17:51

            from ze0time / Added

This was made for a Promise warehouse party in Toronto on Halloween a few years ago. Three projectors were around the venue, projecting on various fuzzy surfaces, with a common theme. Each projector/surface had a visual feed customized for it, with all three projections sharing common elements, combined differently. One or two people at a time controlled the user interface with touch screen and MIDI device, with 10+ people through the night trying their hand at it as it was easy to learn all the tricks. I didn't release this back when I recorded it because it was un-polished, but what the heck, it's a good example of an application built in TouchDesigner for one event/venue/purpose, and shows how I tend to put things together and build user interfaces. Today now that TouchDesigner 088 is out, the scripting and math expressions would done in python, but the methods of design and interaction would be the same. The TotemBuddy icons were created by Isabelle Rousset, and with whom the shadow videos were co-shot and the color pairs were sampled from sumo referees' kimonos. Video production was with Brian Moore. Sorry about the audio drop from 51:00 to 1:00:00, and for some of the re-takes that were not edited out!

On the 13th of November 2014, RBBi celebrated the World Usability day by hosting a small event with close knit industry professionals to discuss the state of usability in the middle east. World Usability Day is a day when Usability professionals across the globe get a chance to reflect back on a year of helping people & businesses to improve their user experience & making the lives of people better. Worldusabilityday.org explains User Experience this way: “User Experience is all about engagement. Technology, products and services are usable when they engage people. At work we strive to engage with those around us—whether they’re users, colleagues, or stakeholders. It means getting people on board with an idea, earning trust, and working toward mutual goals. We all know how challenging that can be. This is the year to think out of the box. How can you engage people to use technology products and services? What kind of design thinking needs to be incorporated to keep people engaged?” RBBi, being one of the first Usability/User Experience agency from the region, took the initiative by inviting a few panelists from different walks of life to get their perspective on several Usability points such as: - Your take on Usability and its importance in various fields - How do you see Usability around you in the Middle East – Service Design, Digital, Ecommerce, Government, Banks, Hotels, etc. - Within your organisation, how do you think usability is rated and implemented - Any global examples you have come across that impressed you? Any local example? - What do you think can be at various stage to create more awareness? Education for professionals? Marketers? - What is that one thing you can do in your work place that will increase the Usability levels – It can be anything, right from having a new push/pull sign on the door to changing the IT systems. The event was a great success with insightful discussions all along. www.rbbideas.com
