      • Wasatch Splitboarding - on a Venture Snowboard

        from Alecs Barton Added 1,561 7 2

Last season, 2010-11, was the best snow year since I have been alive. The Wasatch mountains of Salt Lake received consistently epic snowfalls from February all the way into May, granting, for the second year in a row, an unforgettable winter. Said and done I think the resorts were claiming around 800 inch snowfall totals. A special thanks to Venture Snowboards for simply making the best and most environmentally friendly split-board that the industry has to offer.

          • Snowboarding in Yukon's Backcountry - Mont Log Cabin

            from Peter Machalek Added 421 1 2

White pass, between Whitehorse, Yukon and Skagway, Alaska, is home to some of the best backcountry skiing and snowboarding in North America. South Klondike Highway provides easy access points to numerous options. There's a good variety of terrain and the snow conditions are fantastic. I decided Log Cabin access point, 137km south of Whitehorse, with somewhat limited avalanche terrain exposure (key when riding solo), would be my first Yukon backcountry snowboarding experience. My start elevation was about 2,500 feet in a small parking area just off the highway, with an elevation gain of about 1,500 feet in about two hours. Unfortunately, because Yukon only sees five hours of sunlight a day, I couldn't reach the summit in time and was forced to make my descent early, to make it back in time before dark. Unreal experience and incredible snow - will definitely be back to the Yukon to try and scratch more lines off the list.

A snowboard descent of the Chaos Couloir on Halletts Peak in RMNP. A little icy, which mandated some self belayed side slipping through the crux section. But a beautiful day to be out in the mountains and make some turns.
