I’ve been meaning to take part in the Vimeo Weekend Challenge for months now. Each week I intend to make a video, but I don’t come up with a good enough idea, or I can’t find the time, or more often I can’t find the motivation, which has been bothering me. I love haikus, so when this weekend’s challenge was posted (to create a video haiku) I figured I’d finally get one done. This was it. How hard could a 17-second video be? The whole weekend went by, and the night before submissions were due, I laid in bed frustrated with myself. Why couldn’t I find the time to do a video? Why couldn’t I come up with an idea? Why was I such a failure? I wrote down my thoughts in haiku form and I realized I had my video. (And feeling particularly motivated, I woke up and created it before going back to sleep; and before losing my motivation.) This haiku illustrates a moment in time. That moment of self-doubt. But that moment isn’t forever. Ironically, my video haiku about failure is a huge personal success. My first completed weekend challenge video in a long time. I’ve been wanting to create more of these to challenge my personal creativity. Here’s hoping it won’t be the last. Created for the Weekend Challenge: vimeo.com/groups/weekendchallenge
