I'm using a small Sodering Iron Stick to burn some tree bark texture into upholstery foam. Building a big Tree Suit Walkabout Costume! When you're doing this type of work, wear a filter mask, turn on a fan, and open the windows. As the foam burns, it will release carcinogenic gas. Be careful!

        • The Last Road to Cambodia

          from Odyssey International, LLC Added

A wanderer by nature, freelance journalist turned road philosopher, Gary Schmad, was holed up somewhere off the beaten track in Asia wondering just how many roads he'd have to take before he got where he’s going. As usual just as he was about to either break on through to the other side or slide ever further into the great abyss, his assignment, finally, comes through. Sending him back to Cambodia to shoot more footage and interviews on the Killing Fields of Cambodia was one thing, but this time they were pushing him directly into the heart of darkness to interview Pol Pot‘s last living torturer, Prak Khan, who practiced his deadly craft for the Khmer Rouge at the infamous Tual Sleng Prison just outside Phnom Penh. It was a job, though, and he was glad for it. Grabbing his devil-may-care cameraman, he hits the open road for yet another adventure on his continuing odyssey through life. But the dark world he uncovers is still a living nightmare for many as they recall loved ones disappearing into the night never to be seen again, babies‘ heads smashed in front of screaming mothers, torture, death a thousand times over and an all pervasive hunger that drove them to eat bugs, mice and even dirt. The Khmer Rouge killed millions in a holocaust to create a communist peoples’ paradise on earth but left Cambodia a poor and broken country in its wake. Even after encounters with mass murderers and torturers along the way, the gods were still not content. They still had to show him what death was really like… up close, and way too personal .... Join him in a most unusual odyssey that pierces the heart of darkness in Cambodia to find a little light along the way.

          • Rajza po Kato II Architecture

from Griffin Art Space Added 76 0 0

Starting on August 1 in Katowice is the second stage of the “Rajza po Kato” (‘Trip Round Kato’) project initiated by Griffin Art Space. This time we’ll be taking a photographic tour of the city’s most important buildings. The action will start with a photographic exhibition on the fencing around the Supersam construction site at Piotra Skargi 6. The Trip Round Kato will also be visiting the OFF Festival, where over the 3 days of the event, films will be shown and discussions and workshops held, all in a special pavilion. The programme also includes walks around the city on a special trail taking in all of Katowice’s architectural highlights. This stage in the project will be a visual journey around Katowice’s architecture, which is a marriage of Polish and German history. Ultimately, the final result of the project is to be the publication, in 2015, of a unique guide to Katowice. August’s Trip Round Kato will begin with an exhibition of photographs taken specially for the occasion by Nicolas Grospierre. The exhibition at the 138 Metre Gallery will give visitors a close-up of Katowice’s best landmarks, which combine tradition with modernity, starting from the housing estates of Giszowiec and Nikiszowiec, heading through the modernism of the interwar period and travelling right up to examples of the postwar style – the First Skyscraper, the Katowice Spodek arena and the remarkable ‘Star Estate’ of tower blocks. The artist has also immortalised buildings now considered to be symbols of Katowice, such as the Municipal Cultural Centre (MDK) and The Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library (CINiBA). The exhibition will highlight the beauty of the city’s architecture, which is subject to constant change, as it adapts to the contemporary world while respecting Silesian tradition. Katowice’s metamorphosis can also be viewed by visitors to the OFF Festival at a special onsite Trip Round Kato pavilion, where film screenings, meetings with authors and workshops will be held. For those interested in architecture and urbanism there will be a free reading zone with interesting publications on architecture, including Katowice’s, available to read while lounging in a deckchair. This part of the project will also include walks around Katowice, with buses departing from the festival entrance for those wanting to join in. In fact, anyone living in Katowice can take part, not just OFF-goers! Admission to all the August Trip Round Kato events is free. This is the second part of the project, patron of which is Supersam, and which is organised by Griffin Art Space – an institution founded by the Griffin Group with the aim of promoting and supporting the arts. The objective of Griffin Art Space is to revive artistic life and promote cooperation between business and culture. To this end, it is patron of the most significant cultural events and the activities of prominent cultural institutions. As part of of the Trip Round Kato project, experts and artists will, until Autumn 2015, be conducting workshops, meetings, exhibitions, a series of open-air exhibitions and urban events. Their main role will be to create a new visual map of Katowice, refresh the city’s image and revitalize the creative activity of its inhabitants. The result of the 2-year Trip will the publication of cultural guide to Katowice.
