Aussie Farmers Foundation's grant assisted the Prevent Alcohol & Risk-related Trauma in Youth Program (P.A.R.T.Y) visit country Victoria. Youth traumatic injury through accidents and often through risky behaviour is addressed in Alfred Health’s P.A.R.T. Y program at The Alfred Hospital Melbourne. For country youth, there is the added dimension of farming accidents and higher incidents on country roads, hence Alfred Health’s application for funds to take their program out to the regions. It’s a big call to take a full day program with trauma medical specialists, paramedics, physios and nurses from ICU and trauma/burns units from the hospital and out to hundreds of secondary school youth and teachers. The $30,000 grant from our foundation assisted P.A.R.T.Y go out to Shepparton, Warrnambool and Bendigo and we joined them in Warrnambool to show you how, what is considered a world's-best program, works. • Graham McLeod: Pigeon Fancier

from ABC Open South West Victoria Added 1,150 3 1

Graham has been a pigeon fancier, racing his pigeons from his Warrnambool home and all around southern Australia for 50 years now, and in good-humoured competition with his brother Keith. Toted by fellow pigeon fanciers as one of the best in the region, this film gives you a little insight into what makes pigeon racing so exciting. The 8mm film projection you see in the film is courtesy of Keith McLeod Copyright 1959. This film was made for the ABC Open My Crazy Passion project by a number of photographers in Warrnambool who wanted to try their hand at film. The interview with Graham was conducted by Paula Burzacott, which was a first for her. Both Graham and Paula soon looked like naturals. A lot of the wonderful camera work you see of the racing and close ups of pigeons was from Engin, whose use of unusual camera angles in his photography works translated beautifully to this new medium. On the set, Engin was directing like a pro and finding new and interesting ways to capture the action. A big thank you goes out to David Hermans and Oat Vaiyaboon, whose footage was unable to be used but who came to an early morning group film shoot that was a lot of fun. Good experience for next time, anyway hey guys?! Produced by Emily Bissland Edited by Emily Bissland Interview conducted by Paula Burzacott, Action filmed by Engin Torun

                    • Vaughan Hoekman - Great Southern Land

                      from Image Filmz Added 9,980 97 2

It's an honour too have Vaughan Hoekman riding for Image. He is a true ambassador for our movement, aswell as a true ambassador for bodyboarding in general! We first met Vaughan on the Luna's cliffs, when he was still a grommet trying to come to terms with putting his body on the line amongst the force only Lunas can produce. This is only natural for Victorian bodyboarders as there are no other waves in Victoria that come close to imitating the shallow, heavy and unforgiving Luna Park setup and wave type. Hence why the progression from Victorian beach breaks and mediocre reef breaks, to one of the heaviest waves in the world, can be quite overwhelming and for some unbearable. On top of all that, during Vaughan's first crack at Lunas where he remained waveless, he unfortunately had to whitness another brave soul and one of his best mates, Nick O'Sullivan get destroyed by the Lunas wrath and break his Femur which resulted Nick having to be carried out of the dangerous and remote surf and be airlifted to hospital. According to Vaughan "blood just filled the water" after Nick's tragic incident. That scenario is enough to terrorise and spook anyone from coming back and from that point Vaughan knew exactly the type of wave Luna Park was and how unforgiving it can be, and to conquer it would take lots of dedication and commitment. Two years later with hundreds of hours travel time under his belt, and dozens of new and larger waves surfed and conquered, Vaughan has been able to increase his big wave riding capabilities and take his riding to the next level. He is now comfortable and capable enough to challenge one of the most Heaviest waves in the world, Luna Park. His first successful session at Lunas is displayed in this clip, where he joined fellow Team Riders Shane Ackerman and James Page. It was one of those near perfect Luna days that most bodyboarders dream of. However we will be saving Vaughan's best clips from that session for our new film Til The End. His progression in big wave surfing, alongside with his perfected Technical style and ability, makes him one of the most complete riders to ever come out of Victoria. Fellow Team Riders James Page and Clinton Kettlewell also fall into this category. Vaughan Hoekman is also supported by Cheer Wetsuits and Enough Threads, two of the most highly regarded bodyboard companies in The Southern Land, who are doing great things for the bodyboarding industry and the bodyboarding future. Cheer Wetsuits and Enough Threads played a huge part in making this clip possible, as well as ensuring Vaughan's section for Til The End will be breathtaking.
