Three years ago, the Near East Foundation (NEF) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched a ground-breaking economic development project. Olive Oil Without Borders is an idea that brought mutual understanding and increases in financial livelihoods to both sides of a decades-long conflict through the development of the Israeli and Palestinian olive oil sectors. Bringing together farmers, millers, traders, and intermediaries from Israel and the West Bank, Olive Oil Without Borders also sought to increase olive oil quality and quantity by facilitating the sharing the strongest of each side's technologies and techniques. Today, the partnerships between the people who work the land continue and the goodwill created is as strong as olive trees themselves.

Follow Seattle photographer Andy Larsen as he sets out on what some called a "fool's mission", the search for peacemakers in the Middle East. For ten days in November, 2014 Larsen and Emmy Award-winning documentary producer John Yeager travelled to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Hebron and across The West Bank shooting their documentary "Blessed are the Peacemakers: A New Look at The West Bank and Jerusalem." What they came back with may change the way you look at this age-old conflict. If there is a chance for an end to hostilities in the region it would be found in the people Larsen and Yeager met along the way, ordinary Jews and Palestinians who simply want to live in peace.

This edition of Salaam Shalom: Report on Palestine/Israel is devoted to a presentation by Alison Weir, one of America’s foremost experts on the media and reporting on Occupied Palestine. She is director of If Americans Knew and president of the Council for the National Interest. Ms. Weir recently authored “Against Our Better Judgment: The Hidden History of How the U.S. Was Used to Create Israel.” This presentation, which she gave in Seattle, Washington, last July, during Israel’s attack on Gaza, begins with a discussion of pro-Israel bias in the media. She then shares the story of how she went from being a passive viewer of the Israel-Palestine conflict to an activist. Finally, she excavates the history of the rise of American Zionist organizations, which began in the late 19th century, and charts their long and pernicious influence on U.S. elected officials and foreign policy where Israel is concerned.
