      Eight members of the South African Domestic Service and Allied Workers Union (SADSAWU) traveled across the United States in November 2013 as part of an exchange program sponsored by the Solidarity Center through a U.S State Department grant. The exchange, one of several organized each year by the Solidarity Center, also will bring U.S. domestic workers to South Africa, creating opportunities for workers to share best practices, experiences and ideas to better empower domestic workers. SADSAWU is part of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), South Africa’s largest labor federation.

          VOZ Worker Rights Education Project in Portland, Oregon has organized day laborers into a worker-run center that among other things gets employers and day laborers together in a safe environment. Through interviews with day laborers and staff of the MLK Worker Center and with Ben Nelson of the Laborers International Union of North America, this video shows how similar VOZ's organizing is to union organizing like that of the Laborers. Both day laborers and organized unions benefit by this organizing. Both VOZ and the Laborers argue that the organizing of all workers, including those that are not "documented" is good for all workers.
