I shot this video to convey the spirit this concentration camp still holds. While it is also a prominent camp among the most well known, I did not know the history behind Dachau itself. This site prior to World War II was an abandoned artillery factory. When the Third Reich came into power, Dachau was first used as a work camp for political adversaries; slowly becoming the model for the hundreds of camps built after, including Auschwitz. I wrote and produced this piece about the liberation of Dachau from the perspective of an American soldier for Pearson Education's middle school Social Studies digital curriculum. The Holocaust is not usually taught in detail to middle schoolers, and I worked with editors and educational consultants to review the script and rough cuts of this sensitive topic. Richard Marowitz, who was also well-known for having found Hitler's Hat, died shortly after we finished editing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KH_GE-Cv78 Writer/Director/Producer: Norman Cohen

“Ground to cockpit… Clear to start… The Flying Tigers going into action.” The 1st American Volunteer Group (AVG), nicknamed the Flying Tigers, was comprised of pilots from the US Army Air Corps, Navy, and Marine Corps. Consisting of three fighter squadrons known for their innovative flying style and tactical victories, the Flying Tigers’ shark-faced fighter planes remain among the most recognizable of any individual combat aircraft in World War II. Only 500 pairs rolled off the assembly line featuring matte grey arms and frame, silver-mirrored lenses, silver hardware, yellow accents on the nose-bridge and tips, US Air Force-inspired insignia on the arms, and of course, the Flying Tigers’ signature shark face on both temples.
