You Are Here TV presents "No God at the Bottom of a Glass," the story of Jim Christopher and "S.O.S" (Secular Organizations for Sobriety). S.O.S. is the brain child of Jim's own struggle with alcohol abuse. Jim tried everything to get sober, Gestalt Therapy, in-house treatment centers, and finally....Alcoholic's Anonymous. But, for Jim, an adamant secularist, A.A.'s spiritual bent was off-putting, and so he continued his struggle with an alcohol addiction on his own, until finally, he developed his own program of recovery - S.O.S, one that did not require turning one's "will and life over to a higher power". That was nearly 35 years ago...and he hasn't had a drink, since. S.O.S. meetings now span the globe, helping countless alcoholics, addicts, compulsive overeaters and the like find recovery without the requirement of a religious framework.

The role religion plays in the United States is changing. The traditional approach to spiritual practice, although still prominent is in a seeming state of flux. With the rapid advancements of technology and the physical sciences, religion has taken an interesting turn these past 100 years, or so. In our first episode of “Moses of Burbank,” You Are Here TV visits a small spiritual center taking up residence in Burbank, CA. Nestled between Universal Studios and Warner Brothers back lots rests Spirit Works Center, a small parish devoted to the works of Ernest Holmes, founder of The Science of Mind, a universalist approach to God, the human mind and the link that many founders of these “new American religions” believe to be between them.

What if the "unexplained" could be explained? It seems we have always had a curious fascination with the paranormal and fringe science. It has been a popular topic in mainstream media for decades. The movie industry alone has awarded it its own genre, the notion that ghosts, ghouls, demons and those who possess the uncanny ability to tap into some unseen, supernatural force continues to titillate audiences, everywhere. But it's not just the entertainment industry that profits from this popular concept. Each year, millions of men and women flock to those who portend to have some sixth-sense ability - an ability to talk to the dead, read your palm, read your cards...or your mind. But, what if it was all an illusion. Any magician who chooses to reveal his or her methods will be the first to tell you - magic, ultimately is nothing more than refined illusion, and when a master at the illusory meets someone who desperately needs to believe in magic, the hoax is born. The Independent Investigations Group or (IIG) as it's known by its hundreds of members throughout the United States was devised to do just that - to investigate and to think skeptically and critically about arcane claims. As it's own Mission Statement claims, The IIG investigates fringe science, paranormal and extraordinary claims from a rational, scientific viewpoint, and disseminates factual information about such inquiries to the public. For as one of it's own long-time members reminds us, it takes great effort, courage and practice to think critically, but in doing so, you have taken one step closer to the truth.
