Zero Waste Fashion and open design project. Fashion project that generate little or no textile waste in their production. Zero-waste fashion design strives to create garment patterns that leave not so much as a scrap of fabric on the cutting room floor. It’s a way to eliminate millions tons of garbage a year. Standard clothing production generates and average of 15% - 20% textile waste due to the stratification or hierarchy of the garment production process. You can download the pattern. Sizes grow lengthwise so there is no problem to scale patterns. + info: http://elenacuadrado.com/dress-patterns-zero-waste-fashion Starring Lubna Kaddouri http://lubnakaddouri.com Art director Elena Cuadrado http://elenacuadrado.com Camera and lighting Maria Trenor https://vimeo.com/user4091155 Collection by Elena Cuadrado http://elenacuadrado.com Music by ProleteR https://soundcloud.com/proleter-beatmaker Location EASD Valencia http://www.easdvalencia.com Footwear thanks to ELEVEN, Valencia https://www.facebook.com/pages/GUILLERMO-MIRALLES-E-L-E-V-E-N/199471220078183 Raf Simons for Adidas http://www.rafsimons.com

                    1) Lesley Ware is a self-described “jill of many trades” – fashion designer, instructor, and author. She recently finished her first book, “Sew Fab,” a style and sewing workbook aimed towards young girls that will hit stores next year. 2) With many girls growing up today in a world where fast fashion dominates the clothing industry, it’s not often you see girls taking pride and enjoyment in making their own clothing and accessories when they are so readily available elsewhere. But Lesley Ware is trying to change that. In her studio in Brooklyn, she teaches sewing classes to young girls of all ages. By encouraging them to take charge of their personal style by actually hand-making the clothes they want to wear, she thinks that girls can gain more confidence in themselves and their abilities. But it doesn’t stop there – by using donated and used fabrics, she’s interested in teaching younger generations how to become more sustainable in an industry that’s generally considered wasteful. Throughout her book, Lesley elaborates on many of these concepts. In her personal life, Lesley rarely buys new clothing – she prefers to make her own designs and shop at thrift stores. “I’m just really excited to have the opportunity to work with young girls and help them understand what is going on at a very young age so that they can create the change that we want to see, or at least create change in their own lives,” she said. 3) Lesley Ware: Sew Fab, Sew Green – Tags: #eco #fashion #design #zerowaste #sewing #handmade #green #books 4) TRANSCRIPT: I don’t have like one style that I wear every day. It kind of just depends on my mood. I guess it’s kind of like nerdy librarian is like the most consistent like look that I have but I like to switch it up. All the fabric that’s here is like donated or leftover from something else. I don’t buy anything new if I do, I’ll get separates from American Apparel. Everything else I made it myself. I swap with friends. Everything I’m wearing today is thrifted or something that someone gave me so yeah I don’t shop for new clothes at all. One day I had the urge to go shopping and I was like I’m just going to make myself a shirt in an hour. It’s like a really simple project and then like some of the kids in my sewing class all decided to make one too. So this is the cover of Sew Fab, my first book. I believe that if you can speak up with fashion you can in other ways too. And so I’m really hoping that the book because it covers such a wide variety of topics from how to style yourself to picking out the right colors to even making your own wardrobe, that girls will figure out a lane in fashion that excites them. So one of the sewing projects in the book is just like how to make a bow and like turn it into a bowtie or hair accessory or something. Another great thing about DIY is you’re not buying fast fashion you’re like actually sitting down and creating it yourself and the carbon footprint of that is you know very small. The challenge is like getting the students on board with you know recycling or reusing materials. So we make a lot of bows and bows are like really easy to make out of scraps so I can show them a really cute bow and then say hey I made it out of this scrap of fabric and now we’re gonna do it together. So I think just showing examples of how you can take something that looks worthless and turn it into something that’s valuable and desirable you know worth something like it’s something that you can actually sell or give away as a gift or wear it yourself. It’s just like one approach to getting them to see that just because it looks like a scrap doesn’t mean that you can’t do something really cool with it. 5) http://www.thecreativecookie.com/about-me-1.html, http://www.ethicalfashionforum.com, http://www.ethicalwriters.co 6) Tweet – Check out my piece about designer/teacher/author Lesley Ware – her first book comes out next year! Facebook Post – There are a lot of eco-friendly fashion designers in New York City, but Lesley Ware stands out. Watch my video below to get a glimpse of some of the challenges she faces when trying to get kids to understand why they should care about where their clothing comes from! 7) Narratively, Marie Claire
