American Experience wanted something special for their new mini series. They had in mind a sequence communicating the role of print in the Abolitionist debate, and they wanted to show the country eventually being torn in two over the issue. Our idea was to use archival printed material that is getting swept across the country by the winds of change. The extensive use of paper in a dynamic way presented special challenges. We wanted a lot of natural movement, but it was also very important that the paper end up right were we need it when we need it. After doing tests with real paper and with virtual paper in MAYA, it was decided that virtual paper would give us the most control, so the sequence was created in MAYA using n-cloth. No more wild ponds or grass, it’s time for metal cages, for tubes and neon lights, it’s time for mechanical chains and corn overdoses, to electric shocks and sharp knives… Is there a time for compassion? -----------oOo----------- This short movie was entirely made with sand, mixing frame by frame sand animation and live sand drawing. Some videos from StopGavage.com inspired me to show violence behind nice ads. A small pleasure like “foie gras” causes great sufferings for ducks and geese in stockbreedings and slaughter-houses. < You can screen this sand animation film freely for any non-commercial use on the web, festivals, private projections, streets… > To help stop force feeding, please don’t buy any “foie gras” (fat liver) and sign the manifesto: http://www.stopgavage.com/en/manifesto.php -----------o----------- A film by David Myriam: www.art-engage.net In partnership with Stop Gavage: www.stopgavage.com Sound track and original music: Gérard Bonnotte Duration: 09:40 (with generic) End of production: October 2009 Technical: sand animation, full HD 1920x1080, colour, stereo, 16/9 -----------o----------- A HD file (1280x720) is available here to download, and a DVD will be soon available for order on www.stopgavage.com -----------FR----------- « Plus de mares ni d’herbes sauvages, place aux cages métalliques, aux tubes et aux néons, place aux chaînes mécaniques et au maïs en surdose, aux décharges électriques et aux couteaux tranchants…

              26:04

              from Gary L. Francione Added 12K 28 0

Professor Francione has developed a theory of animal rights that relies only on the sentience of nonhumans and that requires the abolition, and not merely the regulation, of animal exploitation. Professor Francione’s theory, which is developed in Introduction to Animal Rights: Your Child or the Dog? (Temple University Press, 2000), differs considerably from those proposed by others, most notably Peter Singer and Tom Regan.

                16:53

                from Gary L. Francione Added 4,987 24 0

Professor Francione argues that there are profound theoretical and practical differences between animal rights and animal welfare. He is critical of what he calls “new welfarism,” or the position that incremental improvements in animal welfare will lead to the abolition of animal exploitation. These views are contained in Rain Without Thunder: The Ideology of the Animal Rights Movement (Temple University Press, 1996).

More XParticles Bliss. This one is made up of a shapes (cube/sphere/pyramid) in a cloner with a random noise attached for movement. XParticles was told to target/cover the cloner, Operation set to 'visual polygons using rays'. This makes the particles stick to only lit up parts of the cloner. Pretty cool. Tolerance was also set to 100. To finish it off I used a mirror effect in FCPX and made the sound track in Ableton.

                    from Gary L. Francione Added 7,275 19 0

El profesor Francione ha desarrollado una teoría sobre los derechos de los animales que se fundamenta, únicamente, en la capacidad para sentir (”sentience”) de los no humanos y que requiere la abolición, y no la mera regulación, de la explotación animal. La teoría del profesor Francione, presentada en su libro Introduction to Animal Rights: Your Child or the Dog? (Temple University Press, 2000), difiere notablemente de las teorías propuestas por otros autores, entre los que cabe destacar a Peter Singer y Tom Regan.
