Luzann Isaacs from the City of Cape Town explains in this episode that we are African, that we should remember who we are and use local solutions to bring about change. We also visit the areas that our waste ends up in and discover various ways in which we can reduce our waste and carbon. For more information go to www.africanrenaissance.co.za or www.changetv.co.za

Eskom representative and senior manager, Anthony Stott justifies the use of nuclear energy as Eskom's energy expansion plan and cleaner alternative. Muna Lakhani of Zero Waste Africa, a passionate anti-nuclear activist, argues that there is no such thing as safe nuclear energy. And a selection of Capetonian activists and citizens argue ways in which we can work together for a better, cleaner and brighter future. We explore what is wrong with cheap, non-renewable energy, we investigate the current addiction society has to this form of energy and ask how this can be averted to avoid catastrophe. Over the next three years the main power utility in South Africa will increase its tariffs by 80%. What does this mean for the poor? Is it still economically viable to be using energy that cannot be replaced such as oil, coal and uranium? What will our future look like without oil, coal or uranium? How can we overcome these mountains of challenges? In this episode we try and answer some questions, illustrating how individuals can make a significant difference. If we carry on down this highway of self-destruction, the future is uncertain but we do have to opportunity now to make a change. Path into the Future Behind the Scenes: Behind the Scene interview with Director - Michael Raimondo and Director of Photography - Warren Smart. Music composed by Dan Matthee Kerri Wolters, somewhat of a “vulture whisperer” is a determined presence in the conservation world. Her ability to connect with and handle these birds as well as, to conduct wild captures, puts Kerri among the very few who recognize and advocate the vital role vultures play within society. Kerri takes us on a Path into the Future exploring not only threats on vulture survival, such as the muti trade and urbanization but the wealth of knowledge and freedom that these birds can pass on to the human race. Taking a unique opportunity to paraglide, Kerri goes beyond the confines of the vulture enclosure and gains a perspective of life through the eyes and wings of the birds. Gliding with these misunderstood creatures Kerri’s eyes are further opened to the amount of beauty and wonder the modern world misses out on, she invites us as individuals to experience nature and thus gain an understanding of why this planet so deserves our protection. Today only 2900 breeding pairs of the Cape Vulture remain worldwide. Path into the Future is produced by African Renaissance Productions for STEPS and SANBI.

The Guardian Behind the Scenes: Behind the Scenes interview with the Director - Michael Raimondo and the Director of Photography - Warren Smart as well as the main character Tribute Mboweni. The Guardian follows a young environmental ambassador with a tangible enthusiasm for birds, conservation and education. Tribute “Birdie” Mboweni lives in solitude on Dassen Island in order to protect and study the largest colony of African Penguins in Africa. As one of the finalists of the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy, her role as a conservation ambassador has recently been realized with a trip to Canada to represent SA at the G8/G20 Youth Summit May 2010. The documentary explores Tribute’s unique role on the island as well as, her own personal journey of discovery and guardianship. Change: Episode 2 THE NATURE OF WATER In this episode we investigate the importance of water and what is happening to this finite and precious resource. The thorny issue of bottled water and our mistreatment of this beautiful substance is explored. We ask Deon Roussow from Cape Nature to give us his opinion on the matter of water use and how poor water management by the City of Cape Town is causing the loss of massive amounts of water. Various other members of the Capetonian community all give their opinion on this matter which is so central to our very existence. We travel with underprivileged and neglected children who have been given the opportunity to get out into nature and learn about the importance of water conservation with the the Rondevlei children's Environmental Education Initiative. Water is an essential resource to sustain life. As governments and community organizations prioritize the delivery of adequate supplies of quality water to people, individuals can help by learning how to conserve the resource in their daily lives. “Water is life's mater and matrix, mother and medium. There is no life without water.” Albert Szent-Gyorgyi (Hungarian Biochemist, 1937 Nobel Prize for Medicine, 1893-1986) For more info go to www.changetv.co.za or www.africanrenaissance.co.za
