Eliza has chosen to work part time at a local diner instead of taking a more demanding job in her field so she can spend more time with her family. To offset the rising costs of after-school programs and daycare, her husband, Mike, stays home with their five children. Larry Reid Jr. produced this project for The Fall Workshop 2014 hosted by the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications' Multimedia Photography and Design department at Syracuse University. The idea was to focus on one booth in a restaurant and depict what occurred during the shift of one waiter. We were able to finagle The Friendly Toast (a very popular restaurant in Portsmouth, NH) to allow us on its premises. Because we couldn't interfere with the restaurant's operation, the shoot took place from 3am to 7am on one day – and one day only. Little kids don't like to be up at that hour, and frankly, neither do the big kids. Seven parents volunteered as actors along with the crew.

Because he liked the video we made of his book (An Undone Fairy Tale) – Ian Lendler came to Santa Rita Elementary! He read his book to the students while it was projected up onto a large screen in the multi-purpose room. Then he explained how he wrote the book and read some of his poems for children – and – he answered A BUNCH of questions. Afterwards, he signed and personalized copies of his book that the students had bought and brought with them.
