    Kenn Buelow, manager and co-owner of Holsum Dairies — two 4,000-cow dairies in northeastern Wisconsin — shows WisconsinWatch.org reporter Kate Golden one of the two manure digesters. Buelow originally built the digester to keep the smell down. Now it heats and powers his operation, and Holsum is selling energy back to the grid. But it took a while to get there, he says.

                This piece was produced for a museum exhibit at Rice World, on the campus of the International Rice Research Institute (© IRRI) in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. The idea was to both set a mood for visitors going into the photo exhibit, as well as touch upon the science, conservation issues, and passions surrounding birds. The exhibit ran May - November 2013 and was called "Feathers in the Field | The Birds of IRRI" It featured the photographs of Tirso Paris and Fred Serrano. The educational component - which was designed to clarify the facts and myths regarding birds in Asian rice fields - was designed by Paul Bourdin, Richard Smedley, and Paul Hilario. Writing, interviewing, filming, and post-production done by Michael Joyce.
