1. Natabar Sarangi - The Source

Natabar continues to find, save and share his indigenous rice seed with local farmers. To date he has managed to re-introduce over 350 varieties. But it’s not just about the indigenous rice seed of India or about the survival of a sustainable agriculture system with the knowledge of over ten thousand years. It's about a global phenomenon taking place where a non-sustainable system systematically destroys a sustainable one, where short term profit has the power to overwhelm common sense and the consciousness of many millions, where progress is not progress but the wanton destruction of an eco-system and environment we will never be able to replace. Natabar Sarangi is just one of a growing number of farmers throughout the world who realise that if we do not begin to repair the damage taking place to our agricultural systems and our environment, we will lose not just our cultural identity but our fundamental right to a truly sustainable system of food security. This video was made to support the "Eat the View" campaign, a citizen-powered effort started in February 2008 put a kitchen garden back on the White House lawn. It features me, Roger Doiron, digging a new organic garden on my White House lawn with an invitation to the Obamas to do the same. After over a year or campaigning, media coverage in over 500 newspapers and media outlets around the world, more than 100,000 signatures on our White House garden petition, and direct contacts with members of First Lady Michelle Obama's staff, we are delighted to learn that our voices have been heard and that the First Family is once again cultivating the First Garden. Eat the View is a project of the nonprofit group Kitchen Gardeners International. For more info, see: EatTheView.org KitchenGardeners.org

www.farmingfirst.org Addressing the common need for food, feed, fibre and fuel requires a global action plan to increase agricultural output in an environmentally sustainable, economically feasible, and socially responsible manner. Governments, businesses, scientists, and civil society groups must focus attention on the source of our food security. We must work together to enable farmers and put farming first.

Visit www.seedsoffreedom.info to watch the full film which is narrated by actor Jeremy Irons. Global agriculture has changed more in the past 50 years than in the previous 10,000. Nowhere is this conflict more poignant than in the story of seed. This is the trailer for the film Seeds of Freedom, to be launched in early 2012. The film explores the history of the corporate takeover of seed, and the impact that this is having on communities across the world. The loss of indigenous seed goes hand in hand with the loss of biodiversity, the loss of cultural traditions and practices, the loss of livelihoods and the loss of independence in agriculture. Please share this trailer far and wide.
