This interdisciplinary series is inspired by my family's defunct farm in Sonoma, California which has been passed down from successive generations for the last 160 years. My great-uncle was the last to work the land as a pear orchard in the 1960's, which is now leased to a local winery. The surrounding land is littered with antique agricultural tools and parts, once drawn by tractor and before that, horses. I have activated these rusted relics by creating site-specific installations, hung in direct juxtaposition to the land they once formed.

The Handcar Projects are a series of human-powered interactive works centered around the railway handcar. The projects focus on industrial agriculture, biofuel, and topsoil erosion. S*OIL is the newest, and largest, in the series. The handcar powers an electronically controlled irrigation system with pump, valves, soil sensors, LEDs and video screens. The Botanicalls electronic board tweets people to come and water the plants when the soil is dry. The project specifically looks at the relationship between energy and agricultural systems and compares a perennial system (plants) to the genetically modified monocrop system (videos). The project is currently seeking finishing funds to complete.
