      • Atrisco Heritage Academy Cheer 2014

This short takes you on an inside look at the Atrisco Heritage Cheer team. At the furthest southwestern point of Albuquerque, NM juts out Atrisco Heritage Academy High School. A new school constructed in 2008 that dwarfs in comparison to schools built 20 years ago. With a vibrant group of athletes, a coach with a completely different approach at competition, and 6 boys on the team, we highlight a few days spent with the team. Having photographed their team for the past three years, me and Leticia collaborated on making a video for State Championships this year and this is the product. Shot in three days and edited over 10 days, I had a blast capturing their story. Big thanks to Leticia and her whole team. You guys have been wonderful to work with!

Well, I did the ultimate daddy thing and picked up tickets to see the Jonas Brothers concert for A's 10th birthday.  Since the Louisville show was sold out, I drove her to Evansville.  It was a nice 1.5 hour drive on a Saturday evening.  We arrived about an hour before show time, and there were already lines to get in.  We stood in line with many of the mulleted tweens and teens from the area complete with their local high school jacket and I Love (insert Jonas Brothers name here) t-shirts made with marker, puff paint or even airbrushed.  Upon our movement through the turnstile, we were greeted with a table full of programs...almost all gone.  I asked "How much?" and was greeted with $20.....ouch there's the first dent to the wallet.  Then it was off to the souvenir stand, I decided that people are not much different than cattle.  The line at the first booth we encountered from the turnstile was about 20 minutes long.  Figuring we would have ample time to get something we continued on, the third stand had no one in line...A t-shirt, and a glitter light later I was out another $45....then $9 for a Sno-cone and a lemonade. Finally off to our seats, we took the requisite pictures and sat back and watched the fans file in.  About 5 minutes until showtime the place was full.  I would say the audience was comprised 95% of tweens and teens (a few boys, some wearing pink,) 4% moms, and 1% dads. The opening band was Rooney who apparently was having trouble getting gigs.  They proceeded to play a short set-list with the lead singer acting as a periodic cheerleader getting the tweeners to chant "Rooney, Rooney!" I got a chuckle because here was this rock band signed by Geffen that was playing to a room full of teenage girls, and the bass player, the one in sunglasses , appeared to not be enjoying himself. It was also painful because the sound-system was obviously cranked past it's limit in order to overcome the high pitched screams.  It was then that I knew it would be a long night.....After the set change it was time for the Jonas Bros. to come out.  At this point the 20,000 little girls in the audience were screaming at every movement of the curtain or anytime a stage hand would come on stage.  When The brothers came out, it was a combination of excruciatingly high pitched screeches and an over amplified boy band.  The brothers had obviously been schooled in the art of Rock & Roll entertainment, strutting around stage, undertaking risky microphone stand moves, tearing off jackets and t-shirt sleeves, reaching out to the girls in the front row, and many many other over the top moves the would send the screeching crowd over the top.  The show included a cover of Take On me, the 80's hit from A-Ha that was mildly entertaining and a Desperado infused version of A Little Bit Longer, which was probably the quietest and most entertaining part of the evening.  Then the show finished with the well known song SOS and Hold On...which A loved.  The show ended at around 9:45 and it was time for the ride home.  All in all it was an evening made for a teeny-bopper.  A had a blast, while I enjoyed the fact that she had a blast.  That is what it is all about.  Maybe when she is 16 she won't be giving me such a hard time......

For this Digital Animation Assignment, we had to take a true scenario from our lives and blow it way out of proportion. I took a not from the AHA video page and ran with it. At first I was trying to mimic their rotoscope style and then through the mysterious ways of boredom, I created my own. Yes, there is some vulgarity... but lets just blame it on sophomore year angst.
