      • Amazing Handicrafts Of Ecuador!

        from Alan Jarrett Added 45 0 0

Miniature figurines made from the nut of a palm tree. Once known for buttons, this nut is known as “vegetable ivory.” Many artisans derive a living from this handicraft in Ecuador. Some have even taken it to a much higher level. Handicrafts are usually those somewhat inexpensive items you search for to define your trip to places unknown to create memories. In this helpout I will teach you about many of the unique items found, and in many cases exclusively, in Ecuador. You will be dazzled by the variety and imagination shown with handicrafts in Ecuador. Join me on www.ecuador-wonders.com to discover more about Ecuador’s handicrafts.

              • Riding on Top of the Devil's Nose Train

                from Vic Garcia Added 63 0 0

Day 12 - December 14, 2008 - Today's itinerary was to ride the Devil's Nose Train overland from Riobamba to Alausi on a section of Ecuador's Trans-Andean Railroad. Last night Antonio told us that the actual old train was no longer running, but we would be riding on a locomotive over the same tracks. As soon as we reached the city of Riobamba we went right to the train station and stood in line. There are a limited number of seats sold, but the prime photo spots are on top of the train. Gennie and I were able to get a seat on the top, but it was very crowded. The upper deck passengers actually sit on a rack on the top of car and have to hold on to the railing. The train left the station at 6:40, the temperature was in the low 40's F. Because there were about 40 of us crammed on the upper deck, it was difficult to move and take photos.
