Acts 23 has some pretty incredible statements in it. Paul saying he had lived his life in good conscience and Jesus telling Paul that, no matter how bad things got, Paul wouldn't die in that horrible circumstance. In this teaching, Phil explains that the only way to ensure that we can say and hear words like those is by making Jesus more than just our Savior. He's got to be Savior AND Lord.

When most of us think about tolerating something, we think of putting up with things that we don’t like. But sometimes tolerating something can mean that what we’re experiencing isn’t even moving the needle enough with us to illicit a response. In Acts 22, we find the apostle Paul taking the stand in his public defense in Jerusalem and sharing 4 things with the crowd. The crowd tolerated three of them, but the fourth one sent them into a rioting frenzy. We would be wise to learn from Paul’s experience!

When you really boil it down, the apostle Paul did one thing after his conversion: he followed Jesus closely. And when he did that, he found himself in community with others who were following Jesus closely. The reason is simple: following Jesus closely leads to feeling community deeply. If we're honest, we love and hate that, because living in community is a lot like a dog licking a lime (there's a video in here that will help that make sense). In Acts 21, that close community led to some unforgettable good-byes as Paul made his way to what he thought would be the place where he would die.

In the last part of Acts 20, we saw that the apostle Paul called together the elders of the church in Ephesus in what would be the first of a number of farewell addresses that he would give as he journeyed to Jerusalem and almost certain death. As we saw, when we know that we’re talking with people we love for the last time, we don’t mess around with a lot of fluff. Instead, we take the time to tell them the things that we know, and that makes the good-bye a little easier to handle.

If we were honest, most of us would admit that serving Jesus isn’t always everything we thought it would be. It’s harder, it’s slower, and it consumes us in ways that wreck us. As Paul pointed out from the last half of Acts 19, the Gospel is a lot like the main character in the movie “Wreck-It Ralph.” It’s big and seems to get in the way of our plans. But the reason the Gospel is a glorious wrecking ball is because God wrecks us in order to rebuild us.

What would you do if you heard about a demon possessed man beating up 7 brothers so badly that they ran from a house naked and bleeding? More than likely, you'd freak out, which is exactly what happened to people in Acts 19 when they heard about it. The result was a lot of repentance and a bonfire worth 7.1 million dollars! During this message, you'll learn that fakers can't be shakers and you'll be encouraged to come clean about the things you dabble in that are diluting the power of God in your life.
