Fascinance was born out of the realization that after spending nearly 4 years shooting in wild places, the focus needed to come equally into the urban landscape. What better place than where the project began: Kansas City. Produced here as a collaboration curated by Lantern Journal in correlation with the multitalented UK based musician and artist Alex Kozobolis, and the Wires comes the final chapter in the Poiesis project, built from interconnected parts: philosophical inquiry, music, film, sculpture, photography and design. Check out the full ARTicle at: http://lanternjournal.org/2014/12/poiesis-fascinance-you-are-not-alone/ "This concluding film seeks to navigate how the way we both use language and perceptually frame our interactions with the world & each other determines the way the conventional world ‘becomes.’ Engaging the ideas of the artist and psychoanalyst Bracha L. Ettinger, who responded to the Lacanian Gaze, and how ‘fascinum’ or the evil eye pulls us into an isolating vacuum upon the recognition that we are the perceived and therefore potentially objectified. Ettinger coined ‘fascinance’ to describe a different possibility, in which instead of pulling away, we lean into and co-create poietically together. Through a stillness inducing artworking, we return to a symbiotic state of pure and total exchange and as such accept that we are not islands, but isthmuses, mid-points, borderlands, without resolute or penultimate boundaries. We bleed into the world and each other like drops of ink in water. As such this last film seeks to explore that creative gaze, not just in relation to the exchange between people but also place, and in specific the sacred yet inclusive border-spaces we share with the cosmos." Film Text: Each of us are Conjoined by Legacy Through a Wombness, a Wit[h]ness A Shared history Writ in Symbiosis The Ever Present Unrescinded Invitation It Stands a North Point, a Way Back A Reminder That Across All Times & Places We Are Indigenous to the Sacred The Membrane Viscous, Yet Malleable A Threshold Opened in Metramorphic Ritual It Says: Abandon All Falsehood, Ye Who Enter Here It Says: You're Not an Island, But an Isthmus It Says: You Have Never Been Alone Credits: First Musical Arrangement 'Fur Dietmar' Written and Performed by Alex Kozobolis Second Musical Arrangement 'Bahktia' Written and Performed by The Wires: Alternative Strings Production Assistant: Abbegale Drake All other visual/written materials by M Dane Zahorsky 2014

This improvisational study was always intended for collaborating with other artists. Originally, this piece was made in silence but I knew at some point I would want to have some sort of sound involved. That's were Alex Kozobolis comes in, this collaboration from across an ocean. I have been waiting for the moment that we could somehow put our ideas together and this is the time. Wooden Arms as a band made their own CD cases from start to finish with a little help along the way. The Single itself was recorded at Alex Carson's home and then mixed by Wild Beasts producer David Pye. The CD cases were made by hand by laser cutting a piece of beech wood with the help of the designer Ed Cann and then each CD case was hand-stamped with a variety of different ink combinations resulting in a truly unique CD case every time. The artwork was supplied by Photographer and designer Alex Kozobolis. This video takes a small peak into how we made our CDs.
