The new music composer/performer collective Wet Ink produces some of the most current and “living” American music today. Based in New York City, they have grown into a formidable vehicle for new music as a presenting organization and as two performing ensembles. The music of Wet Ink takes its vernacular from the European avant-garde, but views it through a distinctly New York lens—at times visceral and unrelenting, but still maintaining a complexity and richness in structure and sound. The members of the ensemble collaborate in a band-like fashion—writing, improvising, and preparing pieces together over long stretches of time. • Alain Moueix, un autre vin, a different sort of wine

                08:52

                from Isabelle Rozenbaum Added

In October 2010, I tasted wine at Château Fonroque, Alain Moueix’s family estate in the Saint-Emilion region. As I got to know Alain, I began to comprehend his perception of wine. For quite some time, I had been aiming to extend my photographic and video work into the domain of gastronomy in the wine sector, which held a strong attraction for me since the time I had worked on photographic illustrations for the book entitled Une promesse de vin (Minerva 2007). When I met Alain Moueix, my wish then was to produce an artistic and personal film about how a vintage is made; this was the idea I put forward to him and which he enthusiastically accepted. So over the course of a full year, I filmed his team, from the stage of pruning the vines right through to making the wine. That was also a time where I observed and assimilated the various processes of biodynamic winegrowing, taking part in vineyard harvest life Thinking about wine, and considering both the visible and invisible aspects of the living world in the way that Rudolf Steiner has conveyed to us encouraged me to seek images and sounds that were different from those which would normally have accompanied a “coverage” or “documentary” film. This experience with Alain Moueix really helped me be more receptive to nature and its cycles, but has also enabled me to become aware of the importance of taking action to protect our everyday environment.
