A 10 minute video of climb of the West Ridge of Mt. Stuart in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Started Thursday evening at 7pm and camped at 9:30 above Ingalls Lake. Friday started at 5 am, topped out on the ridge at 8:30 am and then had significant route finding. 3 hours up and over Long John Tower, and then another 6 hours to the summit. Ended up getting benighted and bivvied on a ledge at 8500 as we lost light trying to get off the ledges. Saturday the 4th of July started at 5:30 am and arrived at the car at 11:30 am.

      • Natural Northwest #06 - Lake Dorothy

        from Steve Cole Added 22 0 0

Lake Dorothy is a 1.5 mile long lake located in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The south end of the lake has a series of small islands, which is what initially attracted me to this hike. The unusually dry winter allowed very early season access and snow wasn't encountered until immediately below the 3,000' lake. Unfortunately, I created a little too much ambient noise during my audio recording which is audible in the beginning and from time to time after that. This was my second field recording so I've learned a little more about the process since then (including mistakes not to make!). Video was recorded in 4k-30 using a GoPro Hero 4 Black (initial time lapse recorded in 4k-15 using a GoPro Hero 3 Black and processed in GoPro Studio) and then downsampled to 1080p-30 in post-processing. The audio was recorded using a Zoom H2N portable digital recorder and then added in using Sony Vegas Pro. Please direct any inquiries to: scole (at) scolephoto (dot) com.

Ran up and over the mountains 12 miles deep and ended up sitting on a stone and thinking about catching a fish. I returned with muddy shoes and an empty belly....and a smile...:-) The song is by the Band 'Fun' and I believe it is called 'Foot.'
