THE FULL FEATURE IS AVAILABLE HERE: https://vimeo.com/85594947 Peak Performance presents 'Between Places', a documentary film about climbing and sailing in Greenland. For those prepared to forego the common precepts of 'adventure', Arctic mountaineering requires dedication into topographical research and desire for something that is real and committing. Director Henrik Rostrup chronicles the adventure of European alpinists Edurne Pasarban, Erwan Le Lann and Martial Dumas, as they set sail on a 10-day expedition onboard the sailboat 'La Louise'. Sailing and climbing in these areas have not been explored much, it's strange and gorgeous. The skipper, Thierry Dubois is no stranger to these waters, having completed many solo races around the world. He completes the list of the films main characters and provides a perfect balance to the narrative of the story. From the start of the film, each scene seamlessly echoes back and forth between images of the surreal mountains in Greenland. The climbers are older, wiser and more reflected of their past adventures. Edurne, fresh off her incredible feat of being the first woman to climb all fourteen 8000 meter peaks in the world, tells us of her life story, while Erwan and Martial seek out new first ascents along the coastline, climbing, mountaineering and ski touring. Their story comes to life with archival footage of past hardships and hand drawn animations. Each of the climbers story flow in-and-out of this voyage through the fjords in this magic land. Between Places is produced by Pixl Family and features an original soundtrack by French producers at Midnight. Film releases in February 1st 2014. Let the adventure begin. www.peakperformance.com www.pixlfamily.com www.mdnght.com

    • Mt. Foraker via the Sultana Ridge, Alaska Range, 2011 (V6)

As I stood gazing across the vast Kahiltna Glacier from Base Camp in early 2010, I knew immediately that Denali's West Buttress--the obsession of every climber in shouting distance--just wasn't for me. But then I didn't exactly expect to fall under the spell of Mt. Foraker and the Sultana, "the wife of Denali", either. But inexorably, over the course of my 10 days there, I became obsessed with this beautiful massif directly in front of me at almost all times. It taunted me, dared me to climb it. So I resolved in May of 2010--standing in its shadow, crunching in the pure snows of an immense Alaskan glacier--that I'd skip everyone else's dream and go straight to my own on this Alaska Grade III classic for the 2011 climbing season. A year of planning and 8 months of training later, my vision came to life. This 40-minute movie is the story of my attempt on 17,400 foot Mt. Foraker via the Sultana Ridge. To climb Foraker by this route, one must first climb 12,800-foot Mt. Crosson, and then another peak called Pt. 12,472 before reaching the knife-edged, crevassed and double corniced Sultana Ridge, which then rises 5,000 vertical feet to Foraker's lofty summit. To accomplish this requires extended good weather and planning. Most attempts are turned back by poor conditions. Mt. Foraker sees very few attempts (just 9 climbers attempted it in ALL of 2010), and its rare and coveted summit has an average success rate of just 20%-30%. -Bryan Wright (Updated 5/27/11, V6)
