This was an information video about the changes being made to the Cooks and Catering branches of the Royal Navy and, for a change, we were brought in to make this well before the launch date. This was a radical reorganisation of the cooks and catering branches, merging them into one. Despite being brought in early to make this there was not much of a budget available, but enough was found to cover the costs involved in travelling to essential locations for shots / interviews and some music. Shots of service personnel going about their daily work along with set-piece Q&A sessions were the order of the day. Shot on a Sony 537 with SP-Umatic back and edited on a 3-machine linear edit suite.

The existing state of political affairs in Bridgewater is satisfactory, a community meeting was told Thursday, June 26, although town officials heard an appetite for amalgamation. However, amalgamation isn’t part of the mandated review in Nova Scotia which requires all municipal councils to examine the number of elected civic politicians and style of governance, such as a ward system. Four people attended a scheduled open house at the town’s fire hall for an informal talk to hear opinions concerning the review. Municipalities, including Bridgewater, have until the end of December to file its application to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board. However, Bridgewater wants to get its paperwork submitted in October. (Story by Keith Corcoran)

ARCHITECT: Studio Symbiosis PARTNERS: Amit Gupta , Britta Knobel Gupta PROJECT LEADER: Joy Mondal PROJECT TEAM: Viraat Kumar, Md. Shaique Uddin, Rakesh Mathur, Pancham Pathania, Pranav Semwal, Saswata Haldar. LOCATION: Allahabad CLIENT: UPSIDC SITE AREA: 1500 Acres SANGAM Located in Allahabad the master plan takes into account the single most important feature of the city “Sangam”. It is the meeting point of the three holy rivers of India; Ganga, Yamuna and Sarasvati. It’s not just a spiritual marker but also a significant geological phenomenon and defines unity and amalgamation. The concept of “Sangam” has been integrated in the master plan as a diagram of connectivity and unity. The universal symbol of unity creates a continuous loop defining three zones. These zones depicting the trinity has been inscribed as a formal as well as a programmatic element of the master plan. It is grafted in the heart of the master plan and acts as a melting point for the city as a commercial and recreational hub. SITE The site is interrupted due to the existing settlements and ponds that cannot be moved. The design creates a sweeping gesture combining the site into one entity and still accommodating the villages on the site. This results in creating a comprehensive connected scheme. AMALGAMATION The brief requires for a mixed use master plan consisting of Industries, Residential, Housing, Institutional, Commercial and Mixed use. The various typologies have been morphed from one to another and corresponds to the zoning, this results in amalgamated master plan design whereby the perception during movement is a gradual change in the form resulting in a sense of unity of the diverse typologies. UNITY The built and the green have been designed as one system. Green network and the built environment are integrated into one, which seamlessly flows on the site. This unified system of built and green was important to create a city level and neighborhood green, which creates a sense of living within the nature in the master plan along with a layer of pedestrian network. The star form of the green transforms from unbuilt to the built feature of the buildings in the central Sangam area, along with the neighborhood green morphing into urban green plazas. SKYLINE The functional diversity has been unified by a seamless skyline. This undulating skyline merges the various functional requirements of the master plan into a visually coherent system. SUSTAINABILITY The master plan is designed as a Sustainable master plan and a zero discharge city. At the planning stage the green percentage, porosity of the materials, transportation network and walking distances have been accounted for. In the second stage of the design implementation elements of Energy, Water and Waste management systems have been embedded in the planning bylaws.

MELTING BLOKE - Documenting Art : Part 1 Amalgamation – ‘The act of combining or uniting’ http://www.viewartgallery.co.uk The human and animal relationship has been a continuous inspiration in civilisation throughout the ages. The subject holds many worldly legends and remains present in modern day story telling. ‘Amalgamation’ features eight artists who are seeking to express new levels of engagement within the primal connection between man and beast. The artists’ imagined characters tell stories that stimulate an emotional response. Often humourous, sometimes uneasy, but always intriguing… what is the story and who is telling it? Adele Underwood’s animal masks cover the faces of their subjects to hide the difficulty of revealing their imbalances or awakenings to sexuality. Cedric Laquieze creates beautifully exquisite fairy warriors from found materials, including animal and bird skeletons and dead insects and plants. Sharron Bishop comments on the issues of environmental damage due to constant property development and the loss of habitat to wildlife. Tom Mead is driven by his obsession and childhood fear of anthropomorphism. His work is a cathartic process to release his inner nightmares. Beth Carter creates an installation of pure fantasy where the many interpretative opportunities challenges the sensitivity of the adult child. John Simpson references the world of folk tale and myth in his drawings and prints, creating imagery that is both unnerving and enchanting. Diggy brings to life characters and creations of dream and sub-conscious. Quirky faces and an obsession with hands add a sense of mystery. Louis Masia Michel’s characters depicted in the series, “A tale of unfortunate sins”, have committed murder and an extraordinary story unfolds. Amalgamation opened with a private view on Thursday 12th January 2012 and runs to March 4th 2012 View Art Gallery very kindly invited us to create a short film to capture the private view evening event. This film piece marks the first in a series of works documenting artistic goings on within Bristol and its surrounding areas. Stay tuned for our next instalment which will document the opening night of the upcoming MShed exhibition 'An Eye For Fashion' - photography from Norman Parkinson. www.meltingbloke.com
