American Conservation Experience (ACE) volunteers from around the globe and based at Santa Cruz, Calif., were assisting Lassen Volcanic National Park rangers in the culmination of an 11-year restoration of Drakesbad Meadow. Derek Schook, research associate at Colorado State University, explains why the project is important. Volunteers had about three more weeks of work left when this video was taken Friday, Oct. 5, 2012. ACE is a non-profit conservation corps offering opportunities for both American and International volunteers to take part in challenging outdoor projects in many of the most beautiful National Parks, National Forests and wilderness areas in the Western United States.
