The MFA in Applied Craft and Design and PNCA’s Printmaking Department welcome Amos Kennedy as part of the 2012-2013 Graduate Visiting Lecture Series. Amos Kennedy is a letterpress printer, papermaker, and builder of artist’s books based in Gordo, Alabama. He quit his corporate computer programming job at the age of 40 to follow his dream of becoming a letterpress artist, or as he calls himself, “a humble negro printer.” His work embodies his passion for stirring up strong emotions and encouraging people to think in new ways. Kennedy is the subject of the documentary "Proceed and Be Bold." This lecture was co-sponsored by PNCA’s Printmaking Department. The MFA in Applied Craft and Design is jointly offered by PNCA and Oregon College of Art and Craft. Thanks to Abraham Kueya, we can show you a fine video about who we are. He had an internship at Freedomhouse-Art this year and designed the script. "Come Here Make Happy" is an invitation to everyone who is interested in freedom and art and who wants to create faces4freedoms. We need to give freedom a happy face from and for every culture, age or belief to share with the world. Thanks also to Quotation Street Art for his collage art and inspiration, to Elena Bertozzi who took beautiful recordings of kids, telling what freedom means for them, and to Beethoven's Fidelio Ouverture performed by the Berliner Symphony Orchestra directed by André Cluytens. We made a mix soundtrack out of both. Last thanks go to the Province of Zeeland in the Netherlands who helped us to realize Freedomhouse-Art.
