"The brothers from Liverpool radiate enthusiasm. The sound is flawless from the outset. "So here is how we are going to do it tonight. First half of the set of old songs, new album the second half, front to back. Okay?’’ kindamuzik.net "just like on the record, do the two voices [Vincent and Lee] blend wonderfully together’’ livesx.nl "anathema are really not a band who take the easy road. the heavier songs and the more atmospheric ones are being alternated, resulting in a beautiful mix of dreaming away and headbanging’’ Blastbeat.nl "from my experience, an anathema encore is always something special, today was no exception’’ Blastbeat.nl " anathema are a gem in today's music scene. i support them since the mid 90's, and i can't understand how such pure musicians, who make such beautiful music, remain (or have remained) so underexposed’’ Blastbeat.nl "this was my second encounter with the band, and just like the first time, the put on a show that comes close to the musical perfection of a pink floyd show.’’ Rockportaal.nl " the band keeps their audience hypnotised for about two hours, with their exciting and adventurous show. the dynamic ( in the 'rising tension' sense) songs, the clear (not false) vocals, and a show without frills deserve special mentioning.’’ tarkus.skynetblogs.be "Weaving shadows into music and adding dashes of purest melancholia are things ANATHEMA achieved a grand mastership in over the course of their career with it providing a soundtrack for the lost and those experiencing the darkest days of their lives. But there’s something different about the successor of 2003’s ‘A Natural Disaster’. At various points ‘We’re Here Because We’re Here’ is much brighter, even hopeful. This evening we would get to witness the special atmosphere of the new album live.’’ "‘Summernight Horizon’ kicked in with its piano as the second one and exciting screams got heard in the venue. Once again I need to say I think this one works even better live than on CD and the vocals were absolutely fantastic. When the song nearly reached its peak, Vincent started rocking heavily. But with the next one ‘Dreaming Light’, the mood became more melancholy-flavoured again. In parts fragile vocals guided us through a brittle song that regardless of the contemplative has something uplifting to it, something to make you smile again.’’ ‘’Angels Walk Among Us’ - if I’m just hearing those melodies I’m drifting off; it’s a magical tune. Also the next two tracks were off that album with ‘Presence’ and ‘Simple Mistake, a lengthier excursion in entwined melody building slowly to its peak, having everyone fully under its control.’’ 9.3 / 10 reflectionsofdarkness.com For more info, downloads and audio samples from We're Here Because We're Here, go to: kscopemusic.com/anathema Buy Anathema albums from: burningshed.com/store/kscope/collection/222/

This is a collaborative art piece undertaken by Mathieu Martel and John Ross. Displayed as a looping projection at the Starry Night art festival in Orillia, it is shown here in a different format than originally intended. Therefore, the original artist statement below doesn't coincide with the current way its being shown. However, the intent of the project still remains intact. Enjoy! There is no story here, but for what you create while you watch it. And for every person that will be different. War is cyclical, and so is this piece. It has no real beginning, no real end, only in-betweens. And the point at which you start watching it will determine what you think the story is. And, in much the same way that mass media can influence your emotions and feelings on a subject, so too are your emotions and feelings affected by the music. Because the music and the animation are staggered, depending on when you start watching, different emotional cues will be pronounced. Each scene can play out differently depending on whether there is a crescendo, a soft melody, or a vocal paired with it. With each viewing the story can change entirely. This is a human problem, and will take a human solution to solve it.
