In March 2014 Arctic Heli Skiing had the honor of hosting the Salomon Freeski TV crew including skiers Andreas Fransson, Chris Rubens and Mark Abma. The film crew consisted of Jeff Thomas and Anthony Bonello off Switchback Entertainment. In addition writer Leslie Anthony and photographer Mattias Fredriksson joined this all star crew to create the first episode in the Salomon Freeski TV Season 8. The video is dedicated to the memory of Andreas and JP Auclair who tragically perished in an avalanche in Patagonia in September 2014. The video was filmed during a particularly tough winter storm and has a very different feel and character to other videos that have been produced on the Troll Peninsula in the last few years and is a great addition to our collection of amazing images and footage from the mountains of Northern Iceland. Being grateful makes you happier and we have so much to be grateful for, spending our time in the mountains. This is a short edit about enjoying the full mountain experience. Trying, trying, trying and… Failing sometimes, but also reaping the rewards in different parts of the game. And more than that –enjoying every day spent among the mountains, the clouds and fresh air, its purest form. Life can be as simple as just that. I didn't have any film commitment last week so I took a chance and did something I had been waiting to do since last december; pack the car, go to Cham and catch up with the characters over there. The weather wasn't looking too good but everyone I spoke to told me to make my way and "see what happens". I also had new planks from Armada to try out so I figured, even if it was stormy, I could still go for a couple turns. Turns out I had an amazing three days! Fresh track on the north face of the Aiguille and hot lapping Les Grands Montets. A huge thanks to Andreas, Bjarne, Tof, Tom & Ben for letting me tag along, for setting up bomber anchors and opening routes! Over the past 3 years he's logged first descents in a half-dozen countries, battled back to life from an accident that nearly killed him, and become the most talked about skier in the epicenter of all things extreme -- Chamonix, France. What makes Andreas most intriguing, however, are his thoughtful musings on meaning from a life on the edge - a willingness to enter mental spaces that few have ever experienced. In Tempting Fear Sweden's soft-spoken Adventurer of the Year explores a place in which fear overwhelms all emotions, playing both friend and enemy in a pas de deux where death lies just one misstep away. Follow acclaimed extreme skier and ski mountaineer Andreas Fransson, and adventure filmer Bjarne Salén on their quest of finding new lines, enjoying the beautiful Argentinian mountains and pushing the limits of steep skiing in one of the last frontiers of wild mountains in Patagonia. In September 2012 the two friends visited the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre massifs in southern Argentina on the border of Chile for yet another ski adventure. They found beautiful lines, harsh weather, friendly locals and one of the steepest and most technical lines they ever seen on the Whillans ramp of Aguja Poincenot – Maybe one of the steepest and most exposed lines ever skied.
