      USICH introduces a new initiative called Opening Doors Across America. The goal of this initiative is to increase local involvement in efforts to end homelessness in communities, cities, and states around the country. USICH will provide a variety of tools and connections as well as specific steps that communities should take to ensure their efforts to end homelessness will be successful and cost-effective. USICH Deputy Director Anthony Love gave an overview of Opening Doors Across America, the steps to becoming an Opening Doors community and the tools available to help with this process. Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker discussed ways in which bringing all the right people to the table to focus on common goals has helped reduce homelessness in Salt Lake City. The Office to End Homelessness of Minneapolis and Hennepin County Director Cathy ten Broeke and Research and Evaluation Specialist Lisa Thornquist discussed how you can use data to measure your progress and recalibrate your programs to make sure you are getting the best results for your resources. The Executive Director of the Massachusetts Interagency Council on Homelessness discussed the importance of having a broad representation on the council and the need to share best practices with local communities.

        In honor of Veterans Day, USICH Deputy Director Anthony Love will moderate an expert panel including Susan Angell Executive Director of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Homeless Initiative, John Driscoll President and CEO of the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, and Tori Lyon Executive Director for the Jericho Project. The panelists will address the progress that has been made since VA Secretary Eric K. Shinseki announced the five year goal to end homelessness among Veterans, in addition to the following questions: * What are the promising and innovative practices we must embrace in order to reach this goal? * What are the best ways to use limited resources to get the biggest impact? * How can we all get involved to make it happen? The webinar will also include a roundtable discussion where panelists address questions from attendees. Please join us.
