The human condition is considered and authenticated in this quasi-moded nod to the real directors of the 1920's. Spirited amongst generational understatement we are driven without hope to the plaintive cries of mankind's only true salvation as we rocket ever closer to the crystalyne belief that we must uphold the beast within our own cultural endeavours.

The film explores people's relationship with the book as we advance into the digital era of reading; the opening of the New Beaney library in Canterbury provided the opportunity to do just this. The Beaney is resurrected and a new modern atrium, library and galleries are added to the historic Institute. The old and the new building are paralleled through the film’s theme of the physical book ‘versus’ the modern e-reader. This discussion, mixed with thought-provoking images and sounds of the building, artefacts and its people present an engaging portrait of the library. Poetry - especially written for the film - about books, libraries and reading, accompany the film maker’s playful exploration of the time and space.

When I recorded this on Tuesday I was concentrating on the recording and didn't really listen to the song properly. By the time I had finished the edit I was completely blown away. Luke Jackson himself tells the story of the song in the interview but for me it has become a song of freedom and harks to a time when as a people we could roam the land and feel truly free.
