1. Periscope

    from Vendela Grundell / Added

Periscope is a film consisting of twenty collages made from two handfuls of photographs, captured on impulse with a low-resolution cell phone camera through a broken window on the express train to Arlanda airport. Moving through an everyday place such as the non-descript edges of the city, only now subtly illuminated and somewhat displaced by the cracks in the glass, moved my eye inwards and then outwards anew between landscape and innerscape. Twenty collages piece together place and vision through the theme of the periscope, a tool to organize what you see and where you are going. Looking out into this, the viewer is invited to follow my everyday journey but end up somewhere else. The film covers the same journey, across the same time and place, yet is now given a new configuration through the in-between images generated by the cross-fade merge. This film was made in 2014, completed with a soundtrack developed and performed by artist/composer Jason Ajemian improvising his interpretation of the Bill Evans/Miles Davis song “Blue In Green”. Periscope is part of my ongoing project Likely Landscapes, about how seeing and place are embodied in their interaction and shape one another. Likely Landscapes is a project and, at the same time, it is a perspective - an exploration of the connection between the photographic eye/I and the infrastructure of an everyday urban landscape. My point of departure is a recurrent interest in how photographic eyes can at once mirror and reshape the seen, and how that shift may reshape seeing itself. A photograph organizes the eye, the eye organizes the outer and inner landscape where the photograph is brought about – and yet, the slightest shift in this landscape or in the medium capturing it (like a cracking glass) lets the eye see something different, see differently. Layers of likely landscapes exist over and inside one another, depending on what and how they are seen. "Periscope" is available for screening, and its images are available as a book and as individual prints. This was an Video Art Installation which was played in Loops at an exhibition. The idea was that we dont need to search for HAPPINESS, its hidden in the most simplest things and sometimes Nothing. You dont need a reason to smile, create a reason excuse. The images were also shot randomly withDSLR, Cell Phone, Point and shoot. The project was meat to be free flowing and without restrictions to capture the lightness of Happiness. All the people in the video randomly started laughing when asked to. They were not tickled, there was no joke, it was just random :) I hope you smile in the end

The Devil Bride is the follow-up photo shoot to the Suicide Bride Series and the second collaboration of Joely Live and Megan Alter Photography. We shot at three locations. First, at an abandoned bank in the cold where we could see our breath, I shot with window light and off camera flash. Second, we were at a church with beautiful natural light and lucky for us, it also had heat. Third location was a snow covered cemetery. Nicole from Joely Live created this insightful behind the scenes video.

MOULD ART Since the early 1980’s, photographer Brenda Turnnidge has gained something of a reputation for her highly original hand-tinted photographs. Using traditional techniques, she hijacked her images adding an orange sky here and a blue field there infusing new life into her B & W prints. The result was quirky and contemporary. Meanwhile, deep in her Asian archives, chemicals beyond her control joined forces with nature and started “auto-tinting”. To Brenda’s surprise, her slides had accumulated layers of green and purple mould over the years.Tinting without trying. The result is often abstract and frequently an improvement on the original stock shot. Part of photography’s magical moments. Mould art had invented itself.
