Von Rydingsvard is renowned for creating large-scale, often monumental sculpture from cedar beams which she painstakingly cuts, assembles, glues, clamps and laminates, finally rubbing powered graphite into the work’s textured surfaces. Her signature shapes are abstract, with references to things from the real world. Drawing on a range of sources, from the humble to the majestic, von Rydingsvard’s work is recognized for its great psychological force and powerful physical presence. The exhibition was recently honored with the U.S. section of the International Association of Art Critics' annual award for Best Show in a Non-Profit Gallery or Space for its premiere at the SculptureCenter, NY. Ursula von Rydingsvard: Sculpture is organized by SculptureCenter. The exhibition and its tour are made possible with the support of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, and Agnes Gund.

                    from Siro Added

Acclaimed jazz trumpet player Jukka Eskola and Hiroaki Koshiba, abstract live painter spent a morning at the deserted docks of Kalasatama (fish harbour) in Helsinki, Finland. The video was directed by Joel Hypén and filmed by Hypén and Antti Ohtonen. Sound Painting Hiroaki Koshiba has created a signature painting style by developing a improvisational technique called Sound Painting. The technique involves collaboration with a musician and the improvisational translation of music in to an abstract painting. Koshiba is intrigued by the relationship of music and images and has collaborated with numerous musicians. He is also interested in jazz improvisation, as this collaboration with Jukka Eskola, one of Europe's top trumpet players elaborates. Sound painting casts a new and unique approach to music and painting as improvisation which is inspired by each other. This video aims to elaborate this technique. “Sound painting is casting a new and unique approach of possibilities of music and painting as improvisation which is inspired by each other. It also shows the moment how the painting is coming out and and proceeded with the sound”, Koshiba states.
