Allégeance, A Sonnet (allégeance = fidelity, solace, relief) Allégeance is a piece of visual poetry based on the form of a Shakespearean sonnet. It transforms its traditional structure – that is iambic pentameter, rhyme scheme and the form of three quatrains followed by a final couplet – dénouement – into images. The video becomes a poem itself. Spolia is a modern art historical term used to describe the recycling of older sculpture or building material into new construction or use. I have had this marble pedistil from the Getty Villa for several years. The Getty dumped all of there old marble pedistils when they seismicly upgraded in the 90's. They all used to hold objects of Greek antiquity. I am repurposing and carving the pedistal into a sculptural wash basin for feet. We live close to the beach and are constantly needing to wash the sand off before entering our house. I was inspired by traveling and seeing many simelar objects through the Mediteranian, North Afrtica and the Middel East. Many tempels, mosques, and public buildings had simelar objects. This object was created over the course of about a week, in January of 2012. Thanks to Russel, Paul, and Art City for the use of some of their toys!

              from Keeara Rhoades / Added

"Tiber River Capture" began as an observation of floating contents caught in perpetual trapping by the Tiber River current (at Ponte Garibaldi, Rome, Italy). I began fabricating gill net variations to fish the contents out and make a sculpture. The objects retrieved during this three-month process were transformed into a shrink-wrapped form, later returned to the Tiber River via performance - See CH 2 video. For exhibition, the video footage was projected onto painted plastic, heat formed to reference the "fall". This is a custom bench I made for watching the sunset at the end of my street on the beach in Ventura. It is 12 feet long, so it can accommodate the neighbors. It is made from Ipe, stainless steel and granite. James Bianca helped me assemble it, February 3, 2011
