This is about a 10 second test shot taken from the overlook just south of Ancram, NY on the Taconic State Parkway in NY. Living in New York light pollution is obviosuly a problem, but a little up north it starts to get relatively dark. During the shot I realized I'd of been much better off not on the side of a road where every few minutes a car drives by. Shot w/ Tonika 11-16 on Canon 7D in RAW.

A quick little time-lapse of some time my friends and I spent at Dripping Springs lake in Okmulgee on September 12th, 2012. I hadn't planned on shooting anything this night but when we got to the lake we realized the Milky Way was visible (which it usually isn't from this area), so I setup my camera and we went about having a good time at the lake. Shot on my 5D Mk II at 17mm.

Between 2009 and 2011 I did some occasional timid timelapses of the Milky Way, usually from locations having rather boring landscapes and scenery. During August 2012 however I decided to try getting a bit more serious about it, so you could say this is my first significant attempt to do a somewhat decent timelapse, or, as I'd rather call it, astrolapse :-) There's tons of things that went wrong during these sessions, but hopefully I've been learning how to avoid them in the future, from not calculating proper f-stop, shutter speed and intervals, to kicking the tripod (a classic!), bad motion planning, bad scene framing and/or timing, not to mention the lack of linearity in the "story"... you name it. Also dealt with the learning curve in video editing and all that jazz... I'll tell you however that despite the shortcomings, the work I've put into this video has been monumental. In any case, hopefully "Exercise #2" will improve on some of the things this one stopped short!

Altiplano as well as the Atacama Desert, the Namib Desert or the Kalahari Desert among many other fascinating landscapes in the world, are located at or near the Tropic of Capricorn. However, there is no single photo book portraying (only) these beautiful places. Moreover, there is no single photo book with additional time-lapse video footages available on Blu-ray or available to download. I want to close this gap by showing these beautiful landscapes to a worldwide audience with my debut time-lapse short film and photo book project THE TROPIC OF CAPRICORN. http://astrumpeople.com/greg-kiss-photography-the-tropic-of-capricorn-a-time-lapse-journey/ Here is the link to the iBook for purchase & download: https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/the-tropic-of-capricorn/id583219683?mt=11 And this is the German version: https://itunes.apple.com/de/book/the-tropic-of-capricorn/id583026753?mt=11 Music composed by Philip Curran. A short time-lapse video I made during the Star Quest 9 star party at the Green Bank NRAO facility in West Virginia, showing the observation field, the Green Bank Telescope (GBT) and the moon and stars (and the clouds that would eventually overwhelm the sky, killing off the next time-lapse sequence I wanted to shoot :-/ ). Point of view by the GBT observation platform just past the Jansky Lab (for those who have been out there before). This short video will eventually be part of my "Night Moves" night time time-lapse/astro-lapse video to come out later this year. There is no music for this video segment at this time. Technical details: Motion of the camera provided by my Dynamic Perception Stage Zero dolly. Camera: Nikon D7000 ISO set to 3200 Exposures 25 seconds long with 5 second delay between Total exposure time of 2 hours, with 243 shots Lens: 18mm at f/3.5

While staying at the beautiful Whatshan Cattle Co.Ranch (http://www.arrowandalusians.com/) I was blown away by the amount of stars you could see each night. Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
