A starry night begins in northern Chile. The moon shines in the constellation Sagittarius against the band of the Milky Way. From my high altitude point, about 5,100 meters above sea level on the Andes, a spectacular vista of mountains was visible toward the north, including Licancabur, a very symmetrical volcano that reaches 5920 meters and is on the middle-right in this view. Lower in the desert the lights of San Pedro de Atacama is visible. Also notable in the beginning of this time-lapse video is the conjunction of two bright planets Venus and Mercury over the west (left). Make sure to watch this full-screen with the sound on! Featured on the National Geographic News: http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2012/04/03/new-starry-time-lapse-a-tribute-to-sky-watchers/ The evening twilight gently fades in to darkness. Clouds begin to scatter away and I'm under an ocean of twinkling stars. Another night of pure enjoyment and cosmic adventures. The night sky is perhaps the most enchanting love one can ever find! This timelapse production is a tribute to all skygazers around the world who enjoy exploring the night sky with their telescopes. I'm happy to release this in April 2012 in celebration of the Global Astronomy Month (www.gam-awb.org), an international program of Astronomers Without Borders in partnership with world-wide astronomy centers and clubs. I made the footage and images between 2007 and 2011 in various locations in Iran, La Palma (Canary Islands), Austria, Germany, and Nepal. Some of the sequences are made during star parties, and observing competitions such as Messier Marathon where a large group of amateur astronomers observe the night sky together. The music is made for Sky Gazers, a courtesy of my good friends Ali Raini & Max Pfetscher of Tonelabs (www.tonelabs.com). This video was not possible to produce without the collaboration of the following individuals and organizations: Oshin Zakarian (www.dreamview.net), Amir Abolfath (www.torgheh.ir), Gernot Meiser (www.mobile-sternwarte.de), Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on La Palma (www.iac.es/gabinete/orm/indice.html), Astronomical Society of Iran Amateur Committee (www.asiac.ir), Asemane Shab (Night Sky) astronomy center in Tehran (www.telescope.ir), Nepal Astronomical Society (www.astronomy-nepal.blogspot.com), Gahberg Observatory and Salzkammergut Astronomical Association in Austria (www.astronomie.at), and the students at my practical astronomy classes (Astro-heirat). Sky Glow from LMDSS - Heathcote this time lapse was created by Greg Walton. The colors in the sky are produces by charged partials coming from the sun and hitting the upper atmosphere like an aurora. Also you will see a meteor burning up as is enters the atmosphere, producing a shock wave of smoke. During the last Cannes Film Festival in may 2013, I had the opportunity to buy one "EOS 60Da" body dedicated to astrophotography. "Sky is the limit" is the result of my first test of this body, shot during my last summer holidays in Greece. I've shot only in time-lapse mode using several exposures and ISO sensitivities. The sun, the moon, the stars and clouds became the main characters of this small clip during two weeks with the chance to live the full moon night ! Regarding the postproduction, all was made with Adobe CC apps thanks to Premiere and After effects. It's also my first association with the French famous musician & DJ Sébastien Devaud (Agoria), my namesake who allowed me to use his song "les Violons Ivres" as the soundtrack of this time-lapse movie. Thanks Seb ! Shot and edited by Sébastien Devaud with Canon EOS 60Da and Adobe CC Music Courtesy of Sébastien Devaud (Agoria) "Les Violons ivres" © 2007 2014©Bigsensors & Films
