      • DVD Studio Pro: brief at custom menu with overlay for buttons

A walkthrough of how I create my menus for use with DVD Studio Pro using "overlays" for buttons. An overlay is simply a b/w picture. Anything black will become the button, if present under the button area in the menu. The button can then be styled with a solid color inside DVD Studio Pro. You may ask yourself why I don't use the PSD inside DVDSP and instead use JPGs. The answer is quite simply : for better control. I feel I lose control if I have plenty of layers and groups inside DVDSP, and it's so easy to screw up. Also you must flatten layers with layer styles such as shadows, bevel and emboss etc. anyway, so why not do it in one chunk as a flattened JPG. Someone thought I couldn't use a JPG as an overlay since it doesn't include an alpha. The thing is - as long as it's some black information present, you're all fine.

The story follows the lives of a wild spectrum of characters, narrated by a young writer working in a bar in New York’s East Village. Barstool Prophets chronicles this iconic neighborhood over a period of 20 years, from its seedy early 1990s to its recent gentrification into a Manhattan hot spot. From the love-addled bartender to the suicidal doorman to the junkies in Tompkins Square Park, all are family, with the accompanying joys and dysfunctions. by Ethan H. Minsker

If you have been enchanted by Jerry Dennis’s earlier work on sailing the Great Lakes, canoeing, angling, and the natural wonders of water and sky—or you have not yet been lucky enough to enjoy his engaging prose—you will want to immerse yourself in his powerful and insightful new book on winter in Great Lakes country. Grounded by a knee injury, Dennis learns to live at a slower pace while staying in houses ranging from a log cabin on Lake Superior’s Keweenaw Peninsula to a $20-million mansion on the northern shore of Lake Michigan. Walking beaches and exploring nearby woods and villages, he muses on the nature of time, weather, waves, agates, books, words for snow and ice, our complex relationship with nature, and much more. "Come for a journey; stay for an awakening. Jerry Dennis loves the Great Lakes, the swell of every wave, the curve of every rock. He wants you to love them too before our collective trashing of them wipes out all traces of their original character. Through his eyes, you will treasure the hidden secrets that reveal themselves only to those who linger and long. Elegant and sad at the same time, The Windward Shore is a love song for the Great Lakes and a gentle call to action to save them." ---Maude Barlow, author of Blue Covenant: The Global Water Crisis and the Coming Battle for the Right to Water For more information visit www.jerrydennis.net ----- Footage by Jay Burlage Ken Scott Aaron Dennis Bill Latka Produced and Edited by Aaron Dennis Moving time-lapses created using the Dynamic Perception Stage Zero motion-controlled dolly - www.dynamicperception.com Cover Illustration by Glenn Wolff Creative Commons Photographs by Kathleen Tyler Conklin James Marvin Phelps Doc Searls Shawndra and Simon Vinzcha www.stonehutstudios.com
