    • Deadly protests unfold on 3 continents; Rouhani says Jerusalem should be liberated (SCWU #481)

      07:24

from Gospel Light Society Added 9 0 0

Date: February 20, 2014 By: Daniel Whyte III Description: 1. According to CNN, dramatic scenes are unfolding during anti-government protests in three disparate countries this week, on three different continents. The images are striking, and things are heating up quickly. In Ukraine, long-simmering tensions exploded this week as clashes between police and anti-government protesters left more than 25 people dead and the capital's central square on fire. In Venezuela, demonstrations over better security, an end to goods shortages, and protected freedom of speech drew global attention as four people were killed. In Thailand, deadly violence erupted in the heart of Bangkok on Tuesday as anti-government protesters clashed with police, leaving 5 people dead and dozens of others injured. 2. According to Israel National News, Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani, said on Wednesday that Jerusalem should “be liberated from the yoke of Israel.” The comments were made during a meeting in Tehran between Rouhani and the Speaker or the Palestinian Authority (PA) parliament, Salim Zanoun, and were reported by the semi-official Fars news agency. During the meeting, according to Fars, Rouhani expressed the support of the Iranian government and nation “for the oppressed people of Palestine”, and said, "One of the wishes of the Iranian nation is liberation of the Holy City." 3. According to Israel Hayom, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Tuesday that Israel should aim to bring in 3.5 million Jewish immigrants within the next decade. In an address to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the Yisrael Beytenu chairman said that "the biggest threat to us as Jews, both in Israel and the Diaspora, regardless of background, is the demographic problem currently facing world Jewry." Lieberman also said that Israel should seek to boost Jewish immigration to Israel saying that his goal is to see Israel's Jewish population exceed 10 million within the next 10 years. 4. According to The Times of Israel, Israeli and Jordanian officials signed a deal on Wednesday under which Israel will supply $500 million worth of gas to the Hashemite kingdom from the Tamar natural gas field in the Mediterranean. The supply is set to start in 2016, and to continue over a 15-year period. Ultimately, however, the deal may be expanded to a $30-billion mammoth partnership, under which Israel would become the major supplier of Jordan’s gas needs. The Jordanians turned to Israel because their supply of natural gas from Egypt had been halted by repeated terrorist attacks on the gas pipeline from Egypt. 5. According to Israel Hayom, a special delegation headed by Israel's National Security Council chief Yossi Cohen will leave for China in the coming weeks to hold a strategic dialogue with Chinese officials. Political sources said Tuesday that while Israel's unique relationship with the United States was invaluable, Israel cannot ignore China's growing standing as a world power and the subsequent need to reinforce Jerusalem's ties with Beijing. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to bolster ties with China both on a political level, as it is a key player in the international community's efforts to stop a nuclear Iran, as well as on an economic level. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 16:27: "For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works." Our second coming quote for today is from Randy Alcorn. He said, "There's considerable talk about the end of the age, and many people seem to believe that Christ will return in their lifetime. But why is it that expecting Christ's return hasn't radically influenced our giving? Why is it that people who believe in the soon return of Christ are so quick to build their own financial empires -- which prophecy tells us will perish -- and so slow to build God's kingdom?"

      • Israel's Foreign Minister says a War With Iran Would be a Global Nightmare (Second Coming Watch #46)

        05:29

from Gospel Light Society Added 38 0 0

Israel's foreign minister says a war with Iran would be a global nightmare. According to Ynet news, during a visit to China, Avigdor Lieberman said, "If, God forbid, a war breaks out with Iran, it will be a nightmare. Everyone will be involved, including the Gulf states and Saudi Arabia. We must make every effort so that the international community will take responsibility and stop Iran." Iran again threatens to close Strait of Hormuz after being cut off from international bank system. According to DEBKAfile, Intelligence Minister Ali Fa-la-hi-an, Iran's senior spokesman on sanctions, said that if the US and Europe think they can ignore international law to promote their interests, they should know that Iran will respond in kind everywhere it can. He said, "I suggest that the West take seriously our threat to close the Strait of Hormuz." A large fleet of 4 US and French nuclear aircraft carriers and a dozen or more minesweepers and mine-hunting helicopters are currently deployed on both sides of the Strait of Hormuz. America's recent weather is a story of unusual extremes. According to The Associated Press, nearly 11 feet of snow has fallen on Anchorage, Alaska, this winter, and the city has been forced to haul away at least 250,000 tons of snow. The first three months of 2012 have seen twice the normal number of tornadoes. And 36 states set daily high temperature records last week. So far this month, the U.S. has set 1,757 daily high temperature records. Jake Crouch, a climate scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said that this was similar to the number during last summer's heat wave. The Bible says in Matthew 24:6-7: "And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places." • Israel: Jewish Privilege vs. Democracy

                    59:46

                    from Salaam Shalom Added 70 2 0

This edition of Salaam Shalom: Report on Palestine/Israel explores the fundamental contradiction inherent in Israel’s declaration of itself as a Jewish state and a democracy. Our first report, produced by the BBC program Dateline in 2007, underscores the systematic racism and discrimination that afflicts the Palestinian citizens of Israel, who make up about 20% of the population of Israel. It lends support, in our opinion, to Israeli scholar Oren Yiftachel’s assertion that Israel is more aptly described as an “ethnocracy,” rather than a democracy. An ethnocracy is a political regime where ethnicity or race, not citizenship, determines the allocation of rights, powers and resources. Later in the program, Frank Barat, director of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine, interviews Ilan Pappe, the distinguished Jewish-Israel historian, on a range of subjects, including Israel’s subversion of the concept and practice of democracy within its recognized borders as well as in the occupied territories. Dr. Pappe, the author of several books on Israel/Palestine, is director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies at the University of Exeter in Great Britain. We will also broadcast a videotaped reading by Palestinian spoken word artist Rafeef Ziadah of a powerful poem of resistance, “Shades of Anger.” Special thanks to technical producer, Danny Weiss, co-producer Bill Coil, and VTJP webmaster, Jamie Brooks.
