You can count it on one hand. You can pick a five-string banjo In a funky five-piece band. You can rope five hairy buffaloes, Then take 'em for a drive. Oh, man alive, It's number five! I thought I'd see the five Great Lakes. I took a trip up there In a car with five tires! ('Course I had to count the spare.) I saw five big ol' submarines A-startin' on a dive. Oh, man alive, It's number five! Let's count! One, two, three, four five iguanas Munchin' curly fries, Five jumpin' beans on trampolines, Five gophers in disguise. One, two, three, four, five baboons A-flyin' five hot air balloons! Five piggies cryin', "Wee wee wee!" It's crazy all the fives you see! Five pennies in a nickel And five points on a star, A green five-headed martian Looks a little bit bizarre! That kooky, crazy number Makes me want to jump and jive! Oh, man alive, It's number five! Oh, man alive, It's number five! • Apex Expeditions: Geladas in Ethiopia

      from Apex Expeditions / Added

A highlight of our Ethiopia expedition was time spent with Geladas in the Simien Mountains. These fascinating vegetarian primates, distant relatives of the more familiar baboons, spend their days shuffling across the short-cropped grasslands, occasionally gathering in bands hundreds strong. With their golden manes, bright pink breasts and comical facial expressions, these “Bleeding-heart Baboons” are a joy to watch!

For the Dutch edition of National Geographic Traveler magazine, photographer Jan Vermeer and I were in Gambia in the beginning of October this year. We traveled inland to discover an other side of Gambia. We met lovely people, spotted chimps, baboons, hippos and a lot of birds. The result of our trip will be a documentary featured in the magazine in January 2015. In my video you can see us cruising down the beautiful Gambia River, visiting the former slave island and see Jan Vermeer at work. • Road Trip Part II: Victoria Falls, Zambia

I spliced this series of video clips together on my laptop using a certain generic movie-maker which ships with a certain suite of popular operating systems. Basically the footage constitutes the latter part of a road trip I made in 2009, not long before I headed over to the UK. I was using one of the Sony Cybershot bridge cameras to record the footage. Really quite a decent little camera which I have unfortunately parted ways with subsequently. The main subjects are the mighty Victoria Falls (on the Zambian side in this instance), a few local characters, baboons and curio vendors amongst them, and myself. It wasn't my first time at the Falls but the first time I had been there amongst foreign tourists, staying at a backpackers and just generally experiencing things as a non-resident would, although I still ate local to save on expenses...
