Idaho is Adventure. Consider the following: (1) Evel Knievel once tried to jump over the Snake River Canyon on a steam-powered motorcycle. (2) When ESPN asked the nation “are you afraid of wild gorillas?” Idaho was the only state to respond a definitive “no.” (3) Another recent poll was more blatant, simply naming Idaho “The Most Adventurous State.” (4) Napoleon Dynamite’s uncle Kip once threw a football over “them mountains,” in Idaho. Seriously though, it is an incredible state. Home to an expansive 5.3 million acres of designated wilderness, as well as some of the most isolated mountain ranges in the nation, it is what thrill-seekers call “The Good Land.” And through it all, adventure is greatest in winter. To showcase this great spirit of Idaho, we plan to ski across it. Our route will take us more than 200 miles, from the peaks of the Seven Devils to the tips of the Bitterroots, crossing two major wilderness areas and bisecting two more. We will traverse the breadth of the Salmon River Mountains, summit the Seven Devils and crest the Clearwaters, crossing both the Salmon and Selway Rivers. We will travel through 4.3 million acres of road-less wilderness, finally reaching our terminus near Hamilton, Montana (where we hear there’s a good pizza joint). Please help support our application for the Outside Adventure Grant (http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/2013-Outside-Adventure-Grant.html). We
