Sporties FTBA 2013 Boodie Sliding Boot Camp and Round 6 went down on the 3rd and 4th August at Treachery Camp. FTBA Community became a club that celebrated the boogie sliding in the warm winters days with crystal clear 2-3ft lines and occasional A frame. Over the two days there was some serious and comical punting, barrel riding, guitar playing, sitting around the camp fire having a few pale ales and many laughs. This was better than Christmas in July. Sat afternoon saw most people surf where they saw fit in the conditions that suited them best with the wind dying on dusk being the determining factor for some perfect pits. The fire got cranking while the temp fell, with most all gathering around the communal hall. 35+ of us huddled around the fire, a yarn or 2 were told while we all settled down to quite ale and entertainment for the night from Kallan, Liam, Corey, Brody, Toby and Matty. Sunday morning 6am surf checks with Jake, Mitchell and Jeremy while some were just going to bed. A quick toasted Bacon and Eggs around the fire place and comp was on. We found a ripbowl with a handful of left and rights. Kurt Bennett and Mitchell Watson’s onslaught of the A Division kicked things off. Mitchell Watson boosted for the skies with his eppo invert to score a solid 7 2nd heat of the day. Will Kennedy backed it up in Opens round 1, with a long cover up to rev and roll. Toby playing in the dunes while Brody’s little bro and Billy battled the conditions and got out the back by them selves and got some bouncing rides. The SW winds picked up as expected, so move of comp zone was made. The return of Dougy was exciting, seeing the charger take on a few slabs and progress where needed. New comer Curt Lee, picking up some fun rides and making a stance to the A riders. Mullet on the BBQ keeping food in the bellies and drinks in our hands. Thanks again to No Bull Gourmet Meats, Colleens Bakery for the best comp food possible. New comp zone and the barrels were on tap. Brody Hill and Zac Williams gave AA and Opens ago and showed they can play with the big boys knocking out a favourite by count back. Matty McKinnon was on fire with clean lines, tight spins and extended rollos, till he didn’t see Brody taking off which got him bumped. Final times roll on thru, Zac Williams and Kallan pick up the judging pads and judge consistently for 12 heats. A Division - Billy Kennedy showing age is no factor and wins his first heat of the day with clean 4-6s across the board. Kurt Bennet shows his strength and picks off the final heat in round 3 A’s for the clean sweep of wins in each round. AA Division – Jake Mauger and Brero picked off Matty and Doddzy to make the finals. With an action packed Final with William Kennedy and Brody Hill. Opens – saw first time Opens rider Will Kennedy progress with the right back up scores. Liam Brady consistent combo riding all but got him the top spot. Jesse Galloway found himself one of the longest barrels seen at FTBA comp 2013, spat out and attempted a roll on the next section but came unstuck. Ditchfield after a romantic date at Tuncurry that let to a hospital trip on Friday, Tom kept a tight deck of cards and picked of the right waves including some clean barrels to rev. Congratulations to all the riders it was a great weekend and comp. Big thanks to Jon Brown from Treachery for the best home away form home an all time fire and more. Jeremy’s mum and Toby’s Dad the support and getting the kids to bed safe was great. Massive thanks to Rhys Harrison and Tom Ditchfield for risking their lives and driving the clan and trailer to the site. See you in a few weeks for the Wilcox. Please wear your club shirt and make our club proud. Come take advantage of Plucka, Jase and Cheersy as Coaches. Learn your CPR and be ready to help if assistance is needed in the surf thanks to SNSW. We all need you if not in the water, BBQ, running of ground staff and more. Gnorth: Gnorth is Part I in a video series displaying a group mates from West Oz having a bit of a time surfing some perfect, home-grown and uncrowded waves. No pro Surfers, no pro Photog or Videographer, no pro editing tools or crazy graphics, just a DSLR, a go pro, an Aquatech housing, a tripod and a little bit of free software. Its not hi-tech, but it is what it is and i hope you all enjoy and get as amped watching this video as we did whilst traveling, surfing and mashing it all together. Peace.
