Short Animation for my final architectural project at Unit 24, The Bartlett School of Architecture. Related drawings at: http://www.unittwentyfour.com/portfolio/emir-tigrel-2/ Contact: emir@tigrel.com ------------------------------------ VESTIGIAL LANDSCAPES Within the once-sooty, blue-collar industrial zones of the Brooklyn Naval Yard – and acting as a counterpoint to the burgeoning ’Silicon Alley’ of Manhattan – an assemblage of new and old buildings form a hub for digital- focussed entrepreneurialism. Drawing on the rich symbolism of the industrial relics that scatter the existing site and using advanced imaging technologies, the new buildings seek to ‘complete’ lost artefacts and spaces, giving a tectonic presence to the fading memories of this original US Industrial Powerhouse. A Museum without walls. In contrast to the ‘bull’ of Wall Street, the Brooklyn Navy Yard is portrayed as the ‘ballerina’. Marrying the potent historical imagery of the Naval Yard with the charged economic potential of the city, Emir has designed a coherent embracing body that can contain this sprawling and fragmented vestigial landscape.

For the first time, The Bartlett School of Architecture will present its annual student showcase The Bartlett Summer Show from 27 June – 11 July 2015 in its new temporary space on Hampstead Road. Created by ScanLAB, this dramatic three minute film documents the building transformation of 140 Hampstead Road in the run up to the opening of The Bartlett Summer Show 2015. ScanLAB scanned the Hampstead Road building two years ago when it was vacant and have followed its journey from being empty to being occupied, including the show spaces themselves.

////////////////////////////////////////////////// Naturalising Architecture: Inaugural Lecture of Professor Frédéric Migayrou 11.02.2015 ////////////////////////////////////////////////// Naturalisation can no longer signify the return to an Arcadia, a mythical status of nature in accordance with the immanence of the biological context of life. The world, turned to an anthropocene, has imposed the technologies of human activities over all other natural or geological forces. Nature is no longer a resource open to mechanical and technological regulation. A profound transformation of the very concept of nature has been set in motion; it is now inseparable from artificiality, technological and digital production. Moving far beyond the discipline's borders, architecture and urbanism are currently developing a praxis at the intersection of design, computer science, engineering and biology. As in biotechnology, physics, economics, social control, politics, the systematisation of computational simulation has opened new fields of research. Between nature and technology, the material condition of the 'artefact' is henceforth transferable to other materials and other scales. Architects and urbanists can generate complex models resting on self-generation processes of matter and integrating computational, social, material, political and environmental variables. Architecture imposed itself on to other production scales, from the nano to the macro, intersecting other disciplinary fields and initiating new professional skills. Architecture redefines itself as an 'ecophysics' of heterogeneous domains, a condition that is as much architectural as it is political and cultural. Frédéric Migayrou is Chair, Bartlett Professor of Architecture at The Bartlett School of Architecture and Deputy Director of the National Museum of Art, Centre Pompidou in Paris. He was the founder of the Frac Center Collection and of ArchiLab, the international festival of Prospective Architecture in Orléans. Apart from recent publications and exhibitions (De Stijl, Centre Pompidou, 2011; La Tendenza, Centre Pompidou, 2012; Bernard Tschumi, Centre Pompidou, 2013; Frank Gehry, Centre Pompidou 2014), he was the curator of Non Standard Architectures at the Centre Pompidou in 2003, the first exposition devoted to architecture, computation and fabrication. More recently he has curated Japan Architects 1945-2010 (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, 2014), Frank Gehry (Foundation Louis Vuitton, Paris 2014) and Naturalising Architecture (ArchiLab, Orléans 2013). In 2012 he founded B-Pro, The Bartlett’s umbrella structure for post-professional architecture programmes.
