    • Journey to Snake Island

      from Mark Thorpe / Added

Join Mark as he goes on a Recce to check out an island he heard about during filming for another project. The mysteriously sounding 'Snake Island' located off the SE coast of the island of Lombok in Indonesia. The island sits barren, uninhabited amidst some of the most densely populated regions of Indonesia, which in itself raises the main question; Why? The trip took an unexpected turn and bought in a few surprises in a location Mark least expected to be, in a small cave system with some local elders looking for hunting Reticulated Pythons! Check out the course of events leading to the pretty wild culmination and a doozy of a shot that could never be planned! The complete film was shot on a GoPro Hero 3+ Black edition POV camera.

Beneath the rubble, etched into the bricks and crumbling mortar of the Gowanus is the history of America. From Native American settlements to the first European colonies, the war for independence to the industrial revolution the area has been a microcosm of the foces that have shaped the country. In post-industrial America this continues to be the case. While the areas history is specific the trend is general: the disappearance of industry, the movement of working class jobs into the service industry and the gentrification of working class neighbourhoods. This film is not intended as comprehensive. It is a snapshot and a collection of feelings based on one persons experiences of life on the banks of the Gowanus canal.

                from Lorin Grean / Added

"NIGHTSONG DRIFTS, A PRIMAL CRY, MOONBEAMS DANCE IN WILD EYES..." I was inspired by a walk with a wolf in California, and by visiting a cave in Thailand where a million bats came out at sunset, to bring this song to life with imagery. "Nightsong" is on my 1993 CD entitled "The Call." My friend, Chris Leja, wrote these beautiful lyrics and I wrote the music. I am a self-produced artist with many hats; composer/musician/filmmaker. Tips are greatly appreciated to help with future travels and artistic expressions. Thank you for watching. (www.loringrean.com)

Central New Jersey Grotto graciously hosted Princeton Tec on trips into some of their favorite local caves. They taught us to safely make our way through this new (to some of us) world. We brought more lights than they ever have, for a totally different perspective on caves they discovered years ago and explored many times since. The Central New Jersey Grotto (CNJG) is a non-profit organization founded in 1978 for the purpose of advancing the study, conservation, exploration and knowledge of caves. CNJG is a local chapter of the National Speleological Society (NSS).
