1. Tourmaline Surf Park Tide Pools

The tide pools at Tourmaline Surf Park in San Diego are located to the north of the surfing area. The tide pools are a large boulder field with an occasional larger rocky area. There are plenty of snails, red thatched barnacles, aggregating and solitary anemones, limpets of all kinds and other interesting tide pool animals. This area also has a good number of tube snails near the low water line. Do not expect to see too many urchins, mussels and gooseneck barnacles as these species prefer faster water flows. The rocks are covered by very slippery algae and other macro brown algae. More information is available http://californiatidepools.com/tourmaline-surf-park-tide-pools/

    • Deluxe Combo with a twist

      03:09

from Ocean Fox Cotton Bay / Added

The Deluxe Combo is a combination 2 tank scuba dive along with 1/2 day of deep sea fishing, which takes 6-7 hours to complete. We typically start fishing and when the tide goes slack, we do 2 dives and then resume fishing; all without returning to the dock until the fishing and diving are complete. The trip on Tuesday had a special twist, this is the first time one of the dives was a drift dive on the bridge and we were exploring a potential new drift dive site. So as tradition has it, the divers get to name the new site, this one is now called "Sandy Creek", named by Mark from Houston Texas. Mark had so much fun doing the Deluxe Combo last year he is back, we caught a couple of Wahoo and Mahi-Mahi, but of course the "big one" got away. Fresh fish for dinner and some awesome diving..

Alongside vessels, Elaine Bolt creates unique compositions with small objects in ceramic and mixed media. Each suggesting unidentified utensils or obscure tools, these compositions often include ‘found objects’ and unusual materials. These pieces are arranged in museum-like displays and are created to trigger memories of the past, or hint at some mysterious origin. http://elainebolt.com

View the full documentary on Aeon Video: aeon.co/video/culture/flotsam-and-jetsam-a-short-film-about-beachcombers/ The people of Texel, a small island off the north coast of The Netherlands, have been beachcombers for more than 400 years. Though their island is geographically remote, ocean currents around it act like an invisible highway and items from as far away as England and Iceland wash up on their shore. Texel’s beachcombers collect both the treasures and the trash, displaying old shoes (always the left one), rubber gloves and faded buoys in their museum of found items, and keeping any useful goods for themselves. But beachcombing is more than a hobby or an occasional source of free stuff. Each item – whether it is a message in a bottle or a containerload of fur coats – has hidden within it a human story, and the people of Texel cherish the sense of connection it brings them on their remote island. The family choose the Shark Feeding Dive of course, you can record football and watch it anytime. On the first dive we did the feeding and then on the second dive we just dove with the sharks. They come by very close on the second dive as if to say, "thanks for the lunch". Water temperature around 78 degrees, sea flat, great way to start the new year, for sure the best dives of 2015 so far.

Yesterday it was very overcast, but the visibility was excellent. What I have learned about the Hero3+ is it takes spectacular video when it is over cast. These videos have not been adjusted for color or clarity and only natural light. The Smooth Trunk fish is normally a little shy, but this one was not. The coral is still blooming, wind was hooked up out of the NNE at 20+ knots, but we are on the lee shore for North to East winds, so the seas were about 1/2 foot, water temperature was 79 degrees and visibility 100+ feet.

Sharks got to meet Chuck for the first time, diving at the wall near the man cave and then on Thick Finger reef with Bob, owner 5 Palms rental house on Eleuthera. Along also was Dan from Chicago, his first time to Eleuthera. A couple of nice dives, the coral is still blooming, very nice. Seas were less than a foot, with light wind out of the NW and a water temperature of 79-80 degrees, no polar vortex here yet.
