37-year-old Ben Carey was the picture of perfect health, until he was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm. In most cases, an aortic aneurism results in death due to a massive internal hemorrhage. Ben did his research and met with many doctors before coming to NewYork-Presbyterian to see Dr. Allan Stewart. Ben says, "I wanted to make sure that I had the right surgeon, the best possible procedure out there." Dr. Stewart advises all his patients to live their lives to the fullest after surgery by remaining active and exercising daily. He says, "to give someone more minutes on earth is not the same as encouraging them to live." To celebrate, Ben convinced Dr. Stewart to run the New York City Marathon with him and his wife. Ben finished in 4 hours and 23 minutes. Dr. Stewart was considerably slower.

At this First Thursday event in Portland, Or, held at the studio of FashionBuddha.com I came across this film by the artists Noah and Nathan Rice noahandnathanrice.com The film was shown as part of their art opening "Doubts About My Faith in the Color of Emeralds" and was done in collaboration with Rory Magnus and Ben Carey. My video of their video has resulted in a kind of mashup as the original music soundtrack to the film was lost amongst the loud chatter of the attendees and also the clinking of glasses and bottles. It sounded awful so I messed around with some different music tracks until I settled on "Events In Dense Fog" by Brian Eno. Ironically, the album the song comes from is called "Music For Films." I encourage you to seek out the complete film and watch it as it is rather beautiful. Pampelmoose.com North.com
