The theme LANGUAGES OF LOVE for our first MUSÉ event in 2015 was born one wine-infused night at Stutti Acht (our flatshare in Neukölln), when a friend showed me the poem ‘Jeder Mensch ist ein Künstler’. This (admittedly more than slightly kitsch) to-do-list-poem touched me with its nonetheless profound banality… Calling you to reimagine habits and rethink angles. What resonated with me in particular was the final line ‘Write love letters’ which gave birth to the theme of this showcase: LANGUAGES OF LOVE. As the CTM Festival originally started out as the ‘club transmediale’ and still constitutes the evening program of the transmediale, we were thinking what angle we could explore within this ‘festival for adventurous music and related arts’… We wanted a personal theme that juxtaposes the focus on media art and digital culture, yet without neglecting it. ‘Time To Muse’ is the guiding philosophy of MUSÉ - and we wanted to choose a subject in accordance to that, encouraging contemplation and reflection. A topic that everyone can relate to, a universal language that connects us as human beings, and to investigate how we express ourselves in this interconnected sphere… As an enquiry into love, in all its dimensions… This video piece is my re-mediated version of the poem, which I originally believed to be by Joseph Beuys, but later discovered, was written by the American author and artist SARK®. It is layered over a B/W photograph of mine that oscillates in a split between orgasmic bliss and horrible suffering… These two levels enter into a dialogue that aims to envelop you in your own thoughts and feelings, even if just for a few moments. This is what makes us human, what makes us feel alive.

Nefes faces boundaries between man and art which becomes the main concept, as much essential as breathing, in order to overcome everyday limit and let us live our lives not as brutes. Some people placed in a certain time and space, built, through everyday action, a dialogue with audience who recognize themselves in such creative act without feeling disoriented.
