Chances of Syrian war engulfing wider region growing. According to The National Post, the potential for Syria's revolt-turned-civil war engulfing the wider region seems to be growing by the day. Turkey and Syria continue to trade daily shell fire since five Turkish civilians in a border town were killed by the Syrian military. Tellingly, a meeting of Vladimir Putin, the Russian president and a chief ally of the Syrian regime, and the Turkish prime minister which was set to take place in Ankara next week, has been abandoned. Oil prices have surged, in part because of the potential for all-out war between two of the region's most important players. Israel retaliates against Gaza rocket fire. According to Ynet News, Israeli aircraft struck targets in the Gaza Strip early on Saturday in retaliation for rockets that were fired on Israeli towns. According to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit, the aircraft attacked three terror targets, making direct hits. The army said that it considers Hamas responsible for the previous days' rocket fire. Syria is reportedly using 'cluster bombs' against rebels. According to Reuters, Human Rights Watch said Syrian government forces had dropped Russian-made cluster bombs over civilian areas in the past week as they battled to reverse rebel advances, an act which rights groups say can constitute a war crime. The bloodshed inside Syria has worsened markedly in the past two months although neither side has been able to gain a distinct advantage. Combat has been reported nationwide but the crucial strategic battles are being fought in an arc through western Syria, where most of the population lives. The Bible says in Mark 13:7: "And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet." Proposal to give the UN more control over the internet gains momentum. According to The Hill, U.S. Ambassador Terry Kramer warned that a proposal to give a United Nations agency more control over the Internet is gaining momentum in other countries. Proposals to expand the U.N.'s International Telecommunications Union's authority over the Internet could come up at a treaty conference in Dubai in December. European telecommunications companies are pushing a plan that would create new rules that would allow them to charge more to carry international traffic. Floods ravage Scotland after heavy rains. According to Reuters, heavy rain and flooding hit large swathes of Scotland this weekend, bursting riverbanks, turning roads into torrents and stranding people in their homes. Britain's Meteorological Office warned the region to brace for nearly a month's worth of rain to arrive within 48 hours. One local resident said, "The scale of the damage is astronomical." Leon Panetta warns that the U.S. is at risk of a 'cyber-Pear Harbor'. According to The Telegraph, U.S. defense secretary Leon Panetta says that the United States faces a growing threat of a "cyber-Pearl Harbor", and is drafting new rules for the military that would allow pre-emptive digital attacks. He stated that foreign hackers had the potential to take down the country's power grid, financial networks and transport system and that such action could "paralyse and shock the nation and create a profound new sense of vulnerability." The Bible says in 1 John 2:28: "And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming." U.S. blames Iran for Persian Gulf cyberattacks. According to The Associated Press, a former US government official says American authorities firmly believe that Iranian hackers, likely supported by the Tehran government, were responsible for recent cyberattacks against oil and gas companies in the Persian Gulf and that they appeared to be in retaliation for the latest round of US sanctions against the country. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, in a speech to business leaders in New York City, became the first US official to publicly acknowledge the computer-based assaults. He said they were probably the most destructive cyberattacks the private sector has seen to date. Russia says it will not renew arms agreement with U.S. According to Reuters, Russia will not renew a decades-old agreement with Washington on dismantling nuclear and chemical weapons when it expires next year. The death of the 1991 agreement is the latest in a series of hitches in relations between the United States and Russia and casts doubt on the future of the much-vaunted "reset" in relations between the Cold War-era foes. The project had resulted in the deactivation of more than 7,650 strategic warheads. More Israeli Jews express desire to control the Temple Mount and build a third temple. According to Haaretz, just last year, temple activists were firmly planted in the far-right messianic fringes of Orthodox Judaism and were shunned by most religious Jews. This has ceased to be the case, however, and the Temple Mount Faithful take pride in the growing list of rabbis who withdrew their ban on visiting the Temple Mount. For the first time, activists have created a political program calling for changing the legal status of the Temple Mount as well as allocating prayer times for Jews. The change is evident in the unprecedented proliferation of movements and pressure groups focusing on the Temple Mount and the rebuilding of the temple itself. The Bible says in Mark 13:26-27: "And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven."
