October 5, 2014 Speaker: Denny Wilson Every story that exists has a Chapter One... including yours. You may have started on purpose or you may have been an "accident" (from your parent's perspective). But whatever the circumstances, your story has a beginning and began before you could know. Your faith story has a Chapter One as well. We all start in the same place. Some choose to stay there. Some choose to move toward God. And that move can seem to be prompted by countless influences: a caring parent, a faithful friend, desperate life situations, or "stumbling" across God's Truth. But behind it all is God. His love. His plan.

In what many have called a boring and obscure part of the Bible sits an incredible mystery: a missing city. If the mystery turns out one way, the history that has been left to us in the Bible will show the Bible to be a fraud. If the mystery turns out the other way, the evidence will show that the history left to us in the Bible is highly accurate. The ancient city of Dibon is mentioned in Numbers 33:45 as one of the places the children of Israel camped during their journey to the land of Canaan. But excavations at the modern site of Tel Dihbon have not turned up evidence of habitation at the time of the Exodus (1200-1240BC). In fact, no substantial signs of settlement were seen until around 300 years after the time mentioned in the Old Testament. That leaves us with several questions: Did the Israelites just make up the story of camping at Dibon? Is the Old Testament unreliable in the Jewish history it chronicles? In short, is this slice of history communicated to us in the Bible truthful, or merely an ancient fraud? The lack of any significant findings at Tel Dihbon has led many scholars to completely jettison the idea that the Old Testament history of the Jewish people is reliable. But is that the end of the story? In this episode we examine the evidence surrounding this important question, and we invite to the table a witness to ancient history that has something to say on this matter. This voice is indeed an ancient voice, a trustworthy voice, and a completely scientifically verifiable voice. It is the voice of ancient Egypt herself. Please join us as we examine the trustworthiness of the Bible through the lens of an ancient city buried in the sands of time.
